The Massapequa Tutor

The Massapequa Tutor We offer one-on-one and group tutoring services for students K-12 across Long Island! https://linktr.ee/themassapequatutor

We began in 2016 with one high school junior who tutored family friends in Massapequa and have since expanded to a full team of high school upperclassmen and college tutors available all across Long Island. Our services include K-12 tutoring, test prep, and consultation for high schoolers going through "the college process." One aspect of the Massapequa Tutor that sets us apart from our competitor

s is our use of student tutors. We feel that instruction from a peer rather than a teacher facilitates a more comfortable environment conducive to learning, as well as the ability for a student to discover new approaches to solving a problem that are not taught in class. In addition, this allows us to make our services as affordable as possible; some certified teachers are asking for upwards of $75 an hour!

GPA isn’t everything.

Oftentimes high school students obsess over ever hundredth of a GPA point. Ultimately though, other things will make you stand out in the admissions process like teacher recommendations, personal essays, and extracurriculars.

So don’t put too much stock in GPA. At the end of the day learning is more important than a number.

Students and parents frequently wonder what college interviewers are actually looking for and what questions they will ask. Our very own Dan Hepworth wrote about his personal experience as an alumni interviewer for Duke this fall, including his perspective on what alumni interviews mean in the college process, what he looks for in applicants, and some of his favorite questions to ask. Read more:

Dan Hepworth Only four years ago the roles were reversed. I nostalgically recall having my parents chauffeur me across Long Island to a hodgepodge of offices and coffee shops, at which I donned the “smart casual” look of a button down shirt, a sweater, and slacks. Hair gelled and heart rate high...
