Congratulations to Kaicho Yosh*taka Taira on being officially certified as a holder of the Okinawa Prefectural Intangible Cultural Asset for Okinawan Karate and Kobujutsu. This prestigious recognition, announced in the Okinawa Prefectural Gazette on 12 June 2026, marks the first time in 29 years that a Matsubayashiryu practitioner has received this honour, following the certification of OSensei Shoshin Nagamine in 1997.

Kaicho Taira reminds us that, in a world facing many challenges, the spirit of Karate as the 'Martial Art of Peace' is more important than ever.

We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of this year's awardees. Their dedication to preserving Okinawa's invaluable cultural heritage is an inspiration to us all.
