The MHS Boys Golf Banquet was held Wednesday evening at the Heritage Club. It was a wonderful night featuring a dinner buffet and recognition of our boosters, coaches, seniors, and players for an outstanding season! Thanks to everyone for a great season! Go Comets!!

Congratulations to the Goebel’s (Elijah & Nate) on their 1st place victory with a 33/36 (-3) score at the player/guest golf scramble on Sunday, October 5th.
There was a 9-way tie for 2nd place. Yes… 9-way tie… with the Scorecard Playoff (and I promise this was not rigged)… Mason and Andy Gallimore formally took 2nd place, but we happily share it with the eight other teams that finished with a 35/36 score.

On Monday, October 6, the Mason Boys Golf Team closed out an excellent season with two individual qualifiers competing in the Southwest Ohio Division 1 District Golf Championship. Senior Curtis Crimmins and junior Jack Hellmann both played well at the District meet but came up short of the individual qualifying score of 68 (-4) that would have been needed at Pipestone Golf Club for an individual to advance to the State Championship.

Curtis was making his second appearance at the District Championship, having competed there with the Comets team in 2023 as a sophomore. Curtis made a 5-shot improvement over his first time playing in the District meet, as he posted a great round of 74 (+2) to close out his high school playing career. Curtis averaged under 38 for the season, becoming only the third Comets golfer to do so in the past 3 years. Junior Jack Hellmann posted a steady round of 80 (+8) in his first trip to the District meet. He hopes to return in 2026 with the entire team qualifying for the District level.

On Tuesday, September 30th, the Mason Boys Golf program closed out their season by holding their annual Senior Night at Shaker Run Golf Course on the Meadows nine. So that all 9 of the program's senior golfers could participate in the match for their respective teams, the Comets fielded 3 varsity teams in a Quad match against Sycamore. Mason Varsity Green won on a 6th score tiebreaker against their younger counterparts on Mason Gray (a team comprised of only 10th and 11th graders) when both teams posted scores of 157. Mason White was 3rd with a score of 173, and Sycamore was just behind them with a team total score of 175.

Junior Josh Morneau was the match medalist with a one-under-par score of 35. Junior Jaxson Hutzelman was runner-up medalist in the match with an even-par 36. Playing in positions 1-4 for Mason Green were seniors with the following scores: Curtis Crimmins 41; Alex Chamberlain 38; Sam O'Donnell 47; and Drew Freeman 42. Playing in positions 1-5 for Mason White were seniors with the following scores: Patrick Buckley 46; Jadon Li 42; Vyom Vidwans 45; Greyson Rice 44; and Cooper Bruce 45.

Mason Green concludes their season - having played a schedule that consisted mostly of 18-hole tournaments - with a perfect nine-hole match record of 4-0. The season has ended for 24 of the program's 26 golfers. Junior Jack Hellmann and senior Curtis Crimmins will compete in the District Qualifier next Monday, October 6, at Pipestone Golf Club. Many thanks to the multiple parents who came out to watch the team throughout the year, and we had an especially big crowd tonight when our many parents were joined by some members of the administration to honor our senior golfers.

On Wednesday, September 24, the Boys Golfers competed for the first time ever in the Cincinnati West Sectional at Miami Whitewater Golf Course. The team shot a good total score of 314, but after waiting for over 2 hours for the remaining teams to finish play, they found out that their score was not good enough for the team to advance to the District meet. The top 4 teams from each Sectional advance to the District level, and the Comets came in 5th for the second consecutive year. St. X (295), Elder (300), Anderson (305) and LaSalle (309) advanced.

Individual players can qualify for the District level - if their team does not - by being among the top 4 scorers from a non-qualifying team. In an unusual circumstance, the Comets were able to have TWO individuals advance to the District level. Senior Curtis Crimmins finished with a score of 74 (+3) on the day and was tied for first among individual qualifiers, while junior Jack Hellmann shot 77 (+6) and tied for the 3rd individual qualifying spot. Junior Jaxson Hutzelman shot 78 and just missed out on qualifying for a spot in the District meet by a single shot. Completing the scoring for the Comets were junior Josh Morneau with an 85 and senior Alex Chamberlain with an 88.
