This morning our dear friend Jesse Lynch received his last orders from upper command. He was asked to scout ahead for us in the battlefields of our ancestors. He accepted the orders and after his sister sang him happy birthday he picked up his gear and rifle and made his last journey, this time walking with no pain.
Jesse quietly passed away this morning. After a battle he knew he couldn’t win, but gladly accepted his own ending. No defeat. His terms. With family. With dignity and honor that any soldier would have.
Celebrate for Jesse. Only tears of joy you need to shed. He gave light to darkness, joy to pain, laughs in the deepest despair, all while carrying his own demons. (He made them carry the cooler of cold beer.)
Our cannons will sit ready for orders. Jesse, I’m sure, will find the perfect location for us to send rounds down field. Until then, dammit, I’m going to miss having you near our gun lines laughing and keeping our flank safe from the enemy.
