It is Districts this weekend, which means a large portion of our student body is traveling to compete!
To our competing students: take a moment to breathe, and enjoy the experience. Win or lose, your Summit Family is so proud of each and every one of you.
To our parents/families traveling to support our students, thank you. It is not lost on us how much time, effort and cost is involved throughout the competition season, driving your students back and forth, buying the gear, paying tournament fees, staying in hotels - and you are so gracious about it. You line the rings and cheer on other students, not just your own. You hug away tears when matches/forms haven't gone well. You high five and yell and capture the pictures when they win. You are the glue of the Summit Community. Thank you for showing up. Every. Single. Time.
Come back to class next week with medals and stories to share!

The life skill we are tackling this summer is respect, how to show it, how to earn it, and how to have it for ourselves.
I love this quote that encourages us to make progress instead of making excuses, to seek respect instead of attention. Excuses and attention seeking are easy, especially in the culture we live in. But to take responsibility for our own growth and betterment, to build a life (inner and outer) that begins with self-respect and eventually earns the respect of those around us - that is more difficult, more time consuming, less comfortable. It means making decisions perhaps no one else sees to accomplish goals and build relationships like others don't. And it is so worth it.

We are simply flying into this next cycle of training, giving it everything we've got!
(Seriously, look at that kick! Black Belt class was incredible this week!)
If you have been thinking about trying Taekwondo, this is an excellent time to join! We are at the beginning of this training cycle, with plenty of time to learn before we test again!
Message us today to schedule a free intro session, and make this summer your strongest one yet!

Hard to believe it, but tonight is the LAST competition class before Districts!
My goodness, the time has gone fast! We could not be more excited (and maybe a little nervous)!
Come out to the gym to get any additional reps in that you need, to ask any questions, polish up your technique - and work out those nerves!
You got this!

It is a NEW Day!
New cycle, new weapons, new schedule!
That is right! Make sure you check back in your email for the updated class schedule so you show up at the right time!
We will begin with belt promotions, celebrating all of your hard work yesterday! You all were amazing!

Just a reminder - THERE ARE NO REGULARLY SCHEDULED CLASSES TONIGHT!
Instead, it is color belt testing!!!
Remember to wear full uniforms with a matching t-shirt underneath (white for white uniforms, black for black uniforms) - no summer t-shirts tonight. If you are in Leadership, be sure to bring your sparring gear as well!
We are so excited to see what you have worked on this cycle, and celebrate your growth as Martial Artists!
(Also, stay tuned for tomorrow's post on weapons for the new cycle!)

We are down to the wire!
Only two more nights of regular classes before color belt testing on Monday!
Are you ready?
Are you nervous?
We get it! Testing can feel intimidating! But let us encourage you to trust your training and trust yourself. You have worked so hard, all cycle long; have grown in skill and strength. We believe you are ready.
But please - come to class tonight and tomorrow! Let us help you work out the nerves. You've got this!

This Memorial Day, we want to pause and remember the families who have given their very best - their sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, spouses, moms and dads - to serve this country.
We especially think of and pray for families observing their first Memorial Day since the loss of their soldier. While others celebrate with cookouts and parades, we can only imagine the grief and conflicting emotions you must be wading through.
We haven't forgotten you or your sacrifice, of one you loved best. We owe you more than can possibly be repaid.

On this weekend that seems to "kick off" the summer, we are taking the night off of Competition Class, to encourage extra time with your families.
Enjoy the opportunity for togetherness, for quality time, for picnics and grilling and everything else that is "tradition" for your family - while also remembering the men and women who have died to make it possible.
It is more than a long weekend. It is a long-reaching "thank you" to the families throughout our history who have sacrificed so much for us to be free.
