"What is your favorite song right now? Pop, TV theme, games, rock, hip-hop, TV - anything!" This is what I'm asking my piano students this month.

Some have already finished learning and writing the music for their songs, complete with melody line and chord structures. Others are ambivalent and can't decide yet, so they're helping others.

What about you? What's your favorite song right now? Maybe a few students will take your suggestion!

Summer piano lessons begin next week, June 10. Our concert will be on August 17th, featuring all students with their own transcribed music! They will be performing the written scores with their fellow band members in the park. It's a great theory exercise and a one-of-a-kind experience for our young musicians. Stay tuned!

Maybe I've listened to too much ragtime in my life, but this sounds like Rachmaninov gleaned some inspiration from Scott Joplin. Could just be the "boom chick" in the left hand halfway through.... It's a fun listen anyway! Great application for sixths and thirds study.

Coming soon: a website interface for my piano students and parents! Soon you'll be able to track and pay tuition online, view and submit piano practice logs (here's hoping!) and other things. The The St. Olaf Choir is coming to Mason City! They will be at Trinity Lutheran on Sunday, Jan. 20 @ 3pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Come listen to my alma mater sing on their 2019 Winter Tour!

We had a short and sweet recital today at noon. Thank you to everyone who participated! Your musicianship and performances brightened up the day. Very well done, everyone!

Since we are a little over a week away from Christmas, we will be taking a break from piano lessons until the week of January 7, 2019. The schedule in the winter/spring will be the same, so if you need a change in lesson time please message me.
