Congratulations to former EL students Sthepanny Caballero Torres and Alex Reyes Trujillo for earning their Seal of Biliteracy. (And also some of our favorite visitors/helpers Kate and Kathya.)This is a valuable distinction because many colleges will issue up to 6 to 8 credits for language classes, which can save you thousands of dollars in college tuition and books. This also can help put a student ahead of others in line to get into programs with limited openings. To earn it, one must exit ELL by passing the ELPA21 exam to prove their proficiency in English and then pass a test in the the other language. There are alternative projects for languages that donβt have a standard test. For example we have had a student earn the seals in Pohnpeian and other languages with the help of a certified interpreter preparing and reviewing the exam in that language.
