Car Seat Momma, Inc. We take the guesswork out of car seats! Our 1:1 consultations leave you with knowledge and confidence What’s new?

Hi, I’m Jenn Christian, your Car Seat Momma

I’m a mom of three that has always been drawn to all things early childhood and child safety. I started my career as a Head Start teacher, and have dabbled in just about every field out there since - nanny and house manager, ABA therapist, therapeutic mentor, foster parent and foster parent liaison, just to name a few. In 2017 I took my collective love

and became a child passenger safety technician, commonly seen as a CPST, certified by SafeKids Worldwide. For five years I volunteered my skills and knowledge helping anyone that I could with their car seat needs. The summer of 2022, as the crazy world of COVID was beginning to reopen, I listened to my friends and family and threw myself into the arms of EforAll Cape Cod and launched as an official business. Well, the paperwork just came in and we’re officially a non-profit! But that’s not all - I also just became a CPST instructor! When I’m not tightening seatbelts, you can usually find me at home with my husband, kids and our Great Dane, out exploring the natural world that Cape Cod has to offer, or eating ice cream at Smitty’s, Par-Tee Freeze, or Smugglers - your girl LOVES ice cream!

Help us make Seat Check Saturday free for every family. 💙💛

On September 26, our team will be at the Mashpee Fire Department checking seats, answering questions, and making sure Cape Cod kids ride safe. Every check is completely free for families, because cost should never be the reason a child rides in an unsafe seat.

Free for families does not mean free to run. Our goal is $2,500 to cover replacement seats for families who need them, educational materials, and event supplies.

Every dollar stays right here on the Cape. Every donation puts a safer ride within reach for a local family.

Donate at https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/seat-check-saturday-2026-keep-every-child-safe, and thank you for being part of this. 🙏

Back-to-school ride safety goes beyond the car seat. 🚌

A quick checklist as the first day approaches:

✅ Bus riders: arrive early, wait well back from the curb, and cross in FRONT of the bus where the driver can see you
✅ Walkers: walk the route together first, and pick the crossing spots ahead of time
✅ Drop-off line: kids exit on the curb side only, and seats stay buckled until you are fully stopped
✅ New drivers in the house? Passengers stay at zero or whatever your family rules allow while they build experience

Ever wondered what actually happens at a seat check? Let me pull back the curtain. 👋

Hi, I am Jenn, founder of Car Seat Momma and a CPST-I (that is a child passenger safety technician instructor, the folks who train the techs). Here is what a seat check with us looks like:

1. You show up with your car, your seat, and your kiddo if you have them
2. We check the fit together: seat to car, harness to child
3. You practice, so YOU leave confident doing it yourself

Here is the honest truth: most seats we check have at least one thing we can improve, and that is completely normal. These things are tricky! There is no judgment here, ever. Just help.

Want to see it in action? Come find us at Seat Check Saturday on September 26 at the Barnstable Police Department. 💙

When can a kid ride with just a seatbelt? When they pass ALL five steps. ✅

1. Back sits flat against the vehicle seat
2. Knees bend naturally at the seat edge
3. Shoulder belt crosses the shoulder, not the neck
4. Lap belt sits low on the thighs, not the belly
5. They can sit properly for the WHOLE ride

Most kids do not pass until somewhere between ages 10 and 12. Yes, even the tall ones. Yes, even the mature ones.

Save this post and test your kid in your own car this week. And if they do not pass yet? That is what boosters are for, and there is zero shame in it.

Carpool season is almost here, and we need to talk. 🚗

Every kid needs the right seat in EVERY car they ride in. That includes:

Grandma's car for school pickup. The neighbor's minivan for soccer. Dad's truck on his week. The carpool rotation you just joined.

A quick ride is still a ride. If your child uses a booster in your car, they need one in every car. Extra boosters are inexpensive, and many families keep a spare that travels with the kid, not the vehicle.

Setting up a carpool this fall? Have the seat conversation now, before the first day chaos hits.

New school year, same car seat? Maybe! 🎒

Here is something that surprises a lot of families: moving to the next seat is not a milestone to celebrate early. Each transition (rear-facing to forward-facing, harness to booster, booster to seatbelt) is actually a step DOWN in protection.

The right time to move up is when your child outgrows their current seat by height or weight, not when they hit a birthday, start a new grade, or ask because their friend did.

All month long we are talking about seat transitions and back-to-school ride safety. Buckle up, it is going to be a good one. 💙

The harness is doing work your child's body cannot do yet. 💪

A five-point harness spreads crash forces across the strongest parts of a growing body. Young kids do not have the bone development or the impulse control to be protected by a seatbelt alone, and boosters require both.

So if your child still fits their harnessed seat by height and weight, there is no rush. "Fitting" the booster is not the same as being READY for the booster.

Questions about whether your child is ready to transition? That is literally what we are here for. Send us a message anytime.

What a great morning with the Harwich-Dennis Rotary Club at Grumpy's yesterday! 🍳

Thank you for the warm welcome, the great questions, and the genuine care this group has for Cape Cod families. Every time I speak to a room like this, I leave reminded that child passenger safety is truly a community effort.

Two Rotary visits this month, and we are just getting started. If your club or organization wants to learn how Car Seat Momma keeps kids safe across Barnstable County, reach out at [email protected].
