Is your child’s IEP ready for the next E-Learning day? 💻📚
Did you know that under the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/10-20.56), school districts must ensure that e-learning programs provide "appropriate learning opportunities for students with special needs"?
In Illinois, if a student has an IEP, the development of their elearning participation must be handled through the IEP team process. Schools are legally required to review the student's current IEP to determine if the e learning setting is appropriate and what modifications are necessary to make it successful.
This means e-learning isn't just about handing out a tablet; it's about:
✅ Ensuring accessibility for ALL learners.
✅ Meeting the specific goals and accommodations in your child's IEP.
✅ Providing 5 clock hours of instruction or school work.
The Reality Check:
If your most recent experience with e-learning or a remote "emergency day" was difficult, frustrating, or felt like your child was just "getting by" without their required supports, that is a sign the plan needs to change.
You have the right to request an IEP meeting specifically to develop a ELearning Plan. We can work together to ensure that the "instructional mandates" of the law are actually being met for your child, even from home.
How can we help:
Reviewing your current IEP for e-learning gaps.
Understanding the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidelines.
Drafting a formal request for an IEP amendment or meeting.
Don’t wait for the next snow day or emergency closure to find out the plan isn’t working. Let’s get ahead of it together. 🤝

In the field of grief support, we often discuss the concept of "Continuing Bonds." This isn't about staying stuck in the past; it’s about integrating the love and influence of those we’ve lost into our present and future.
This text beautifully illustrates that transition. As a grief specialist, I help my clients navigate the shift from physical presence to spiritual and emotional legacy. It is a journey of "becoming someone they are endlessly proud of."
If you or someone you know is struggling to find peace in the quiet moments of grief, let’s connect. There is a way to move through the pain toward a place of "love without limits."

A regulated brain is a learning brain. 🧠
In the classroom, it’s easy to mistake a quiet, compliant student for a ready-to-learn student. But this quote from Kelly Mahler reminds us to look deeper.
If a student is complying out of fear or anxiety, their brain is in survival mode. They might be sitting still, but they aren't absorbing information, they aren't curious, and they definitely aren't feeling safe.
True learning requires "felt safety"—a nervous system that is calm enough to take risks and make mistakes. Let’s prioritize connection and regulation over blind obedience.
