Meet the educators day 3: ME founder, Jody Brown! 🌟

Get to know Jody:
“I grew up in Indiana and have been a licensed esthetician for 22 years. Over the years, I’ve fallen in love with this industry, and my favorite service to perform is dermaplaning! One of the greatest joys of my career is teaching. There is nothing better than watching students gain confidence, get excited about learning, and discover a true passion for esthetics. My goal is to ensure every student leaves my classroom well-prepared, highly educated, and ready to build a successful career doing what they love. Helping future estheticians grow into skilled, confident professionals is why I do what I do, and I couldn’t imagine a more rewarding career.
Fun fact: I’m also a proud mom of four daughters!“

Skin analysis is one of the most important skills an esthetician can develop.

This week at Maryville Esthetics, our students are learning how to use a Wood’s lamp (also called a black light) to evaluate the skin beyond what is visible under normal lighting. This tool helps reveal concerns such as dehydration, excess oil, pigmentation, dead skin buildup, and other conditions that can influence treatment planning.

Understanding the skin is about more than identifying whether someone is oily or dry. It’s about learning to observe, ask the right questions, and make informed treatment decisions.

At Maryville Esthetics, we teach students to think critically and understand the science behind every service they perform, helping them build confidence for real treatment room success.

Meet the educators day 1: Melissa Larue ✨

Get to know Melissa,
“I am from Blount co born and raised! I have been doing this since 2014! My favorite service is microneedling with stem cell growth factors - because your skin feels tight and it helps rejuvenate collagen! I love teaching others from lashes, dermaplaning and advanced chemical treatments so others can build their service menu to fit all skin types and conditions! A fun fact about me is that I once was a promotional consultant for Clinique! Who knew I loved helping women feel better about themselves that I’d make a career change and make it my mission!”

Melissa is an excellent educator, esthetician, and business woman and we are so lucky to have her as a part of the Maryville esthetics family to guide and teach our students!
