I made it home yesterday after an incredible week at Steve Kaufman's Acoustic Kamp. I had great students, and enjoyed all of my classes. Steve and Donna really have gotten the entire camp process down to an art. And it was great seeing old friends, and making new ones. The evening concerts were all so inspiring. There were many "moments" to remember for a lifetime. I guess the one moment for me was on the first night sitting next to Alan Munde at dinner, and having the opportunity to say thank you for the musical inspiration that he has been. Anyone that has followed me over the years in my contest endeavors already knows that the one song most people associate with me in competition is Somewhere Over the Rainbow; it has been very good to me. What a lot don't recognize though is that my inspiration to make that song my own in contest form was directly from a version of that recorded in the 1970's that started with just fiddle and banjo on Dave Ferguson's fiddle album- and the banjo was played by Alan Munde. So it was a special moment to me to say thanks, and then later in the week getting to jam with Alan and so many of the other great musicians that were there. It was a great week.

Please Share: We have Scholarships available for Steve Kaufman's Acoustic Kamps 2023.
**** NOTE: Please distribute this information to anyone that you know who wants to study for a week with some of the greatest musicians and teachers in the universe. *****
This June will be the 27th year for the Steve Kaufman Acoustic Kamp in Maryville, TN. Steve Kaufman has put together the strongest team of Guitar, Bass, Old Time and Bluegrass Fiddle, Dobro ™, Old Time and Bluegrass Banjo, Songwriting and Vocals, Irish Fiddle, Celtic Guitar, Swing Guitar Rhythm, Hammered and Mountain Dulcimer and Mandolin instructors the world has to offer.
This year, the Kamp sessions are: June 11-17 - Old Time and Traditional Week and June 18-24 – Bluegrass Week.
Kamp scholarships are available based on several factors. Need and age being just two. This scholarship will pay for tuition to allow a needy aspiring musician to attend the Steve Kaufman Acoustic Kamp in Maryville, TN. The scholarship can be used to provide tuition for any session of the Kamp.
The recipient of the scholarship will be responsible for his or her travel expenses to and from Maryville, Tennessee.
Applicants If staying by themselves, applicant must be 18 or older. Minors accepted into the program must be accompanied at Kamp by a responsible adult at least 21 years of age or older.(Note: Accompanying adult can be a Kamp Kompanion if not registered as a camper See https://www.flatpik.com/kamp-items/kamp-scholorships early and good luck.
These are the current timelines:
March 1: Applications postmarked
April 1: Scholarships awarded.
Scholarship funds are generated through donations, raffles, and other fund-raising activities and an annual raffle of a world class musical instrument.

Call 865-982-3808 for more information on the Kamp or email [email protected] Moore has been heading up the Kamp Scholarship Fund since 2001. Harry passed away in 2020 and we thank him for his tireless efforts to make sure folks who otherwise could not attend Kamp, attend Kamp.
Donna and Steve head up the Scholarship but make no decisions to the lucky recipients. That is all done by a secret board of Kamp representatives. Submit your application early and good luck.

Steve Kaufman’s Acoustic Kamps offers acoustic music students of all levels an opportunity for real immersion and growth in an extremely friendly, supportive and uplifting environment where people can play music, sing, jam and share valuable musical knowledge.
Choose one instrument of study from a variety of specialized weekly classes. Bring other instruments if you have them for the jams.
Enjoy four daily instructor hosted jams, evening Open Mic, and Kamp Koncerts. Then after the evening activities, the student jams begin.
