Pay attention to people who have access to children.

Teachable moment about pedophiles:

Right now, in my town, some people are calling drag queens pedophiles and groomers because they want to hold story time reading to children.

What worries me is not story time.

Most of the time, it is not the person who looks different that we need to worry about. It is the average person. The familiar person. The trusted person. The one people allow around children because they seem “normal.”

Predators do not always look scary or different. Many look ordinary.

Pedophiles hide behind trust, reputation, charm, family ties, religion, coaching, teaching, and community status.

They do not usually hide behind something that makes them stand out too much.

A man wearing a dress is easy for people to spot. Drag queens are different and stand out. But difference is not the same as danger.

Real predators often blend in. They know how to appear safe. They know how to earn trust. They know how to groom not only children, but also parents. Ex: school teachers.

That is why protecting children requires education, not hysteria.

We have to stop confusing “different” with “dangerous,” because what worries me is while everyone is looking at the person who stands out, the real predator may be standing right beside them looking perfectly normal.

Not all monsters hide under the bed.

Some hide in plain sight.

Some look like PTSD.
Some look like addiction.
Some look like trauma.
Some abuse power.
Some traffic children.
And some convince people they’re beyond saving.

We know these battles are real.
But we also know how real hope is too.

Every day, we’re choosing to fight back through rescue, advocacy, outreach, education, and by simply showing up for people when they need it most.

If you believe in our mission and are able to give, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

And if giving isn’t possible right now, sharing our mission helps more than you know.

Most importantly, if you’re reading this and fighting your own monsters, we want you to know something:

We see you.
You matter.
And you do not have to fight alone.
