
Mrs. Chambers' Social Studies classes are learning about the world's first writing system, Cuneiform, in their unit study of Mesopotamia. The students had the opportunity to write on clay tablets just like they did in ancient times.
MRIS - Go Eagles! Montgomery Ridge Intermediate School is located in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in beautiful Maryville, Tennessee.
It is one of two intermediate schools in Maryville City Schools, serving approximately 800 students, grades 4-7.

They are raising money to help cover fees for a State Competition in November. The MMS Competitive Cheer Squad is made up of cheerleaders from MRIS, CGIS, and MJHS. We thank you for your support!
Mr. Miller asked his 4th grade STEM students to build a tower using only 5 sheets of paper, 1 foot of tape, and scissors. These Eagles accepted the challenge and worked together to see which team could build the highest. Teamwork makes learning more fun on The Ridge!

Lions and Leopards have been busy learning about Forces and Motion in Science Lab. 5th graders had fun participating in hands-on learning activities to learn more about balanced and unbalanced forces, gravity, friction, and patterns of motion.

It's a festive time of year on The Ridge! The celebration continues with our Favorite Holiday.
MRIS 4th graders participated in Fly Fourth Day at Camp Montvale. Students learned about grit, motivation, focus, and teamwork by participating in a lot of fun activities. It was a great way to kick off the four years they'll be spending here at The Ridge!

Sixth grade Sea Dragons and Sea Hawks had a great time on their field trip to the Sugarlands Visitors Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was exciting to have students explore science standards in the National Park!

Leadworthy is a class for 6th & 7th graders. The goal of this class is to inspire, challenge, and encourage students to be leaders in the school and community. Students worked together in groups to complete a couple of fun activities. Teamwork on The Ridge!
Fifth grade Leopards and Lions have been learning about forces such as gravity and friction in Egg Drop Lab. Students worked in groups to design containers to protect eggs dropped from the top of a ladder. After building and testing prototypes, teams were able to discuss test results and redesign the containers for a second round of testing. It was "eggcellent" fun!

After reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo, Ms. Dulin's LA classes were asked to complete four tasks related to plot, character, vocabulary, and theme in an escape room challenge. What a fun way to wrap up their first novel study!

Bobcats and Coyotes had a chance to explore the inside of a strawberry - down to the molecules. These seventh grade scientists extracted DNA from a strawberry!.
Leopard and Lion scientists have been following the Engineering Design Process to build rafts out of aluminum foil and straws. Students held a Raft Rally following the building process in order to see which rafts would hold the most pennies. Students learned about buoyancy, density, and surface area along the way. 5th grade science students certainly floated their way to success!

Seventh grade Bobcats had a blast swatting their answers in a game to practice identifying phrases, dependent clauses, and independent clauses in Language Arts class this week.
Parents, come by and visit your child's biome or stop by the gym to meet the Admin Team and PTC Representatives as well as review school information throughout the evening. Grade levels will meet during the times listed in the cafeteria or theater depending on your child's team. Leopards, Sea Hawks and Coyotes will meet in the cafeteria. Lions, Sea Dragons, and Bobcats will meet in the theater. We look forward to seeing you on The Ridge!
Fifth grade mechanics geared up and got their grammar engines roaring to fine-tune language and edit sentences with precision at Eagles Auto Body.
MRIS 4th/5th Grade Basketball Tryouts are this week! Students must show up on the first day of tryouts in order to be eligible for the remaining tryout days.
