25 years later, we remember.

Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the courage of those who responded, and the families, survivors, service members, first responders, and communities forever impacted.

As we mark 25 years, may we continue to carry forward compassion and a commitment to looking out for one another.

We remember us.

What if we treated prevention education the way we treat preventative maintenance?

We don't wait until the engine fails to start taking care of a vehicle. We change the oil, check the brakes, we watch for warning signs, and continue maintaining it over time.

Prevention education deserves the same mindset.

Prevention is not one training, one event, one awareness month, or a box to check. Completing a training may meet a requirement, but meaningful prevention asks something more: Are people building skills? Are conversations continuing? Are we reinforcing what we learned? Do people know how to recognize concerning behavior, respect boundaries, step in, and connect someone to support?

That takes ongoing education, practice, conversation, and reinforcement.

Teach. Practice. Reinforce. Repeat.

Dedicated prevention leadership helps guide that work, but prevention cannot exist in one office alone. Lasting prevention becomes part of campus culture when the entire community participates.

Students. Faulty. Staff. Coaches. Alumni. Leaders. Partners.

Prevention takes every Scot.

We don't wait until the engine fails to start taking care of a vehicle. We change the oil, check the brakes, watch for warning signs, and continue maintaining it over time.

What does campus safety look like when we all play a part?

September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the role each of us plays in creating a safer, more connected campus community.

Campus safety is more than emergencies. It's respecting boundaries, looking out for one another, recognizing when a situation may need attention, knowing your options for stepping in, staying connected to your people, and knowing where to find support when you or someone else needs it.

You don't have to handle every situation yourself, and there isn't one "right" way to help. Distract. Delegate. Document. Delay. Direct. Small actions can make a difference.

Know your tools. Know your people. Know your resources.

Most importantly, remember that campus safety is something we create together.

What if simply showing up for someone could make a difference?

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and it's an opportunity to remind ourselves that we all have a role in creating a community where people feel seen, heard, and connected to support.

Sometimes support starts with noticing that something has changed. Sometimes it means asking directly if someone is thinking about su***de. Sometimes it means listening without judgment, staying present, or helping someone connect with someone who can help.

You don't need to be a counselor. You do not need to have all the answers. And you don't need to find the perfect words.

Your presence can matter.

Throughout September, PAVE encourages our campus community to:

Notice. Ask. Listen. Connect.

If you or someone you know needs crisis support, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. For an immediate, life-threatening emergency, call 911. Students can also connect with campus resources for additional support.

Let's continue building a community where chekcing in is an act of care and reaching out for support is encouraged.

What is Red Zone?

The beginning of the academic year is an exciting time for college campuses, but it is also an important time to talk about prevention.

The Red Zone refers to the period at the beginning of the fall semester when students, particularly those who are new to campus, may face an increased risk of sexual violence.

Understanding the Red Zone isn't about creating fear. It's about building awareness, recognizing behaviors that can cause harm, looking out for one another, and creating a campus culture where respect, consent, and safety are shared responsibilities.

At Maryville College, every Scot has a role in shaping our community. Prevention doesn't belong to one office or one person. It takes all of us.

Learn what Red Zone means, know the signs, and know how you can help.
