Instead of copying the word over and over, have them say each sound as they write it. This strengthens the connection between speech and print, helping the word move into long-term memory.
Simple. Research-based. Effective.
Big words don’t have to be scary.
By teaching students to identify prefixes, root words, and suffixes, we give them a strategy for breaking apart unfamiliar words and discovering their meaning.
A few highlighters can turn an overwhelming academic word into pieces that make sense—building decoding skills, vocabulary, and confidence along the way.
When a child struggles with reading, “try harder” is rarely the solution.
Research shows that struggling readers, including many students with dyslexia, need instruction that matches how their brains learn best—not more pressure, frustration, or anxiety.
In this video, I share some of the science behind reading, along with personal experiences and practical insights from years of working with struggling readers.
Every child can learn. Sometimes they just need a different path.

A step forward, no matter how small, is still progress. What may seem simple to others can take courage, effort, and persistence for a child. And that deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
Let’s keep encouraging growth at every stage, with patience and understanding. Because every step forward is a victory worth recognizing.

Inclusion is not about fitting in; it’s about making space for everyone.
Inclusive education requires us to move beyond expecting learners to adapt to a single standard. Instead, it calls for responsive environments that recognize diverse strengths, needs, and ways of learning.
When we intentionally design instruction that is flexible and learner-centered, we ensure that every child is seen, supported, and given equitable access to success. Inclusion is not an add-on; it is a commitment to belonging.
Because education is not about who can fit the system, but how the system can serve every learner.
Let us continue creating spaces where every child truly belongs.

It’s really about helping kids discover their confidence anchor, that one thing that makes them feel capable and proud.
Not every child shines in the same way. Some struggle with reading, others with math, or even social situations. But when a child finds something they’re good at, like drawing, building, singing, coding, or even being kind to others, it changes how they see themselves.
That feeling of “I’m good at this” does a few powerful things:
It builds self-esteem
It motivates them to keep trying (even in hard areas)
It helps them feel seen and valued
So this is a reminder: instead of focusing only on what kids can’t do, we should help them discover what they can do, and celebrate it. That one strength can make a huge difference in their confidence and growth.

Not every child learns the same way, and that’s okay. When we shift how we teach, we open doors for every learner to succeed. Let’s choose understanding over pressure.
Support. Adapt. Empower.

It begins with phonemic awareness, where children learn to hear and play with sounds. Then comes decoding, turning those sounds into words. With practice, fluency grows, making reading smoother and more confident. Finally, all of these lead to reading comprehension, where true understanding happens.
Each layer matters. Each skill supports the next.
When we strengthen the foundation, we empower lifelong readers.
Let’s build strong readers together, one step at a time.
