The Dyslexic mind is a marvelous thing. A person lucky enough to have this very specialized brain can see the world in a different way, they are excellent problem solvers and creators. This club is an opportunity to meet kids who are going through the same daily struggles, and to learn more about how to harness each child’s individual dyslexic advantage. We will dispel myths, answer student’s questions, and help prepare students to be self advocates. Knowledge is power.

Each week we will highlight a different dyslexic success story from actors, authors, politicians, sports stars, and entrepreneurs. We will share personal ideas, and experiences. Students are encouraged to volunteer to research and share about a person who inspires them. This portion of the class is completely voluntary, but it has been a powerful experience for both the student presenting and those learning from their peers.

Following the day's lesson we will give the students time to talk among themselves in small groups via the breakout rooms feature. This is where real relationships are built, and students have the opportunity to candidly share about their experiences.

Gifted and dyslexic can absolutely exist in the same child.
Sometimes strong vocabulary, reasoning, creativity, or problem-solving skills can even help a student compensate for reading and spelling struggles—making dyslexia easier to miss.

A child can be incredibly bright and still need explicit, evidence-based reading instruction.

If you’ve ever thought, “They’re so smart… why is reading so hard?”—that disconnect may be worth looking into. 💙

There's a misconception that if a student is gifted, they can't have dyslexia. The truth is that dyslexia doesn't discriminate and is not determined by intelligence. Gifted students absolutely can have dyslexia.

October holds a special reminder for me: every learner deserves to be understood, not judged by how quickly they read, write, or learn.

Dyslexia has taught me to look beyond the struggle; to see the creativity, courage, strengths, and beautiful potential behind every child who learns differently.

Let’s celebrate the differences that make each learner unique. Let’s be patient when learning feels hard, celebrate every small step, and remind every child:

“You are not less capable. You simply learn in your own way.”

This Dyslexia Awareness Month, may we choose understanding over judgment, encouragement over comparison, and hope over doubt.
