This week, our Little Explorers went on a fun adventure as we learned about boats and life at sea! We discussed islands, boats, captains, and how the wind helps sailboats move across the water. Children practiced listening, following directions, and using their imagination as they pretended to be captains navigating their ships to different islands. Our activities also helped build vocabulary, problem-solving skills, and creativity while sparking curiosity about the world around them.

This week, we finished our Insects and Bugs theme by exploring crawling bugs such as slugs, caterpillars, inchworms, and beetles. The children were fascinated by interesting facts, including that slugs have blue blood and that they p**p from an opening near their heads! Through hands-on activities and special projects, children improved their fine motor skills, creativity, and hand-eye coordination. Counting, number recognition, alphabet activities, listening skills, following directions, and vocabulary building were also included throughout the week. It was a fun and engaging way to foster curiosity and a love for learning about the natural world!

The Calling I Once Resisted 😊
I came from a family of educators. During my younger days, I tried to avoid this path because I wanted to become someone outside of education. After college, I became a Human Resource Officer, but the routine tasks did not fulfill me. One day, while doodling, a friend casually told me that my skills would fit perfectly in a school setting. I instantly said no. But then I noticed a newspaper in front of me advertising a preschool teacher opening. I told myself that if they hired me, it might truly be my calling.
They did, and the rest is history.
My first teaching job deeply shaped me. It strengthened my purpose, nurtured my growth, and laid the foundation for the educator I am today.
For nearly three decades, I have poured my heart into early childhood education, the very path I once tried so hard to avoid. What began as hesitation slowly unfolded into purpose. I discovered that teaching young children is not just about lesson plans, but about wonder. It is about tiny hands learning to hold crayons, small voices learning kindness, and bright eyes lighting up with understanding.
Over the years, I have worn many hats: teacher, listener, storyteller, comforter, and sometimes a second mother. I have witnessed first steps, first friendships, and countless first achievements. Somewhere along the way, the classroom became more than a workplace; it became home.
Looking back, I smile at the younger version of myself who said “no” so quickly. Sometimes the calling we resist the most is the one that fits us perfectly.
In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, I am deeply grateful for the calling I once resisted but now cherish. To my fellow educators, childcare owners, and providers, thank you for the love, patience, and heart you pour into little lives every single day ❤️
