Learners find joy when investigating curiosities and questions. To encourage the student, the environment is prepared with “living books,” artful play, and purposeful, authentic work. To understand the nature of God:
The Holy Bible is our primary text for history, literature, and citizenship. To understand the nature of man:
All ages study literature, geography, history, language, art, music, citizenship. To understand the universe around us:
Nature study, science and mathematics are approached on a “concrete to abstract” continuum. Students ask questions and pursue their own interests and ideas with varied hands-on sources. About Patti Deal:
Patti is a certified teacher, consultant to home school families and director of Bridges to Learning and Day School. Patti has studied Charlotte Mason philosophies for many years. With over 20 years of experience teaching students from preschool to high school, in both private school and home school settings, she has raised and home schooled two young men, earned a reading endorsement, and acquired many graduate hours in math and science. Following Charlotte Mason's philosophies, she has found the inspiration and confidence to use literature across the curriculum. Her free time is full of graduate classes, square and round dancing, hiking, camping, gardening, reading, and cooking. Our K-8 students use Right Start Mathematics. We start each day playing games that help us learn and practice math concepts as well as social skills. Different levels of difficulties for the games allow the rules to advance as the student's skills progress. And different ages can play together and learn from each other.
