Happy National Vulture Awareness Day! 🖤🪶

Today we’re remembering our beloved Fuzzy Lumpkin, who is no longer with us but will always hold a special place in the West Coast Falconry family.

Vultures may not always get the love they deserve, but these incredible birds are an essential part of healthy ecosystems. As nature’s cleanup crew, they help remove carrion and can help limit the spread of disease.

Fuzzy Lumpkin gave us the opportunity to share just how fascinating, intelligent, and important vultures truly are — and we’re grateful for every person he helped educate along the way.

Today, we celebrate vultures in his memory. 🖤

Happy Friday from Diego! 🦅🤎
We’re getting a little taste of cooler weather and we are definitely enjoying it! Diego is out soaking it up and, of course, always ready for a good Harris’s Hawk talk.
As summer starts winding down, cooler days mean more comfortable time outside, more training, and getting our birds ready for the busy season ahead. We’re pretty sure Diego approves. 😂

Who else is ready for fall weather? 🍂🦅

Owlexi sneaking off with their latest catch… a Croc. 😂🐊🦉

Forget mice and rabbits—apparently the real prey item of choice for a baby Great Horned Owl is footwear. 😂 And somehow, every single one of our Great Horned Owls has had an obsession with Crocs. We may never understand it, but Owlexi is proudly carrying on the tradition.

10/10 catch. Absolutely ferocious. Hide your Crocs. 😂

Mantling the lure and backing right into his trainer because Diego knows exactly who has his six. 🦅

While focused on protecting the lure, Diego keeps looking back at his trainer—checking in while trusting her enough to put his back toward her. Diego is paying attention to everything around him, but knows his trainer is right there watching what he can’t see.

In falconry, that kind of trust is built through countless small moments. It comes from consistency, respect, routine, and learning to read one another. The little check-ins, the body language, and the choice to stay close all say something about the relationship between a bird and their falconer.

Diego knows their trainer has their back… literally. 🤎

West Nile Virus can have devastating effects on wild and captive birds, but protecting them starts with understanding how the virus spreads. 🦟🦅

Reducing mosquito breeding areas around our homes and supporting the wildlife that naturally feeds on mosquitoes are simple ways we can help.

Small changes in our own backyards can make a difference for the birds and other wildlife that share our environment. 💛

Swipe through to learn more about West Nile Virus and some of the incredible species helping keep mosquito populations in check!

Newt the Northern Hawk Owl has some VERY strong opinions 😂🦉

“This can’t be possible!” — Newt, probably, after discovering something was not done exactly to her liking.

Tiny owl. Big feet. Even bigger opinions. 😂

Hamish is in the middle of what can only be described as a catastrophic molt 😅 Feathers are flying hair day is nonexistent and dignity has officially left the chat. Every old feather he drops is making room for a fresh new one so don't worry he'll be back to looking handsome before long 🦉
