Someone sent this to me, knowing the struggles. Everyone struggles and hope these words of wisdom that someone gave me can help the next. Long text.
This has been the roughest few weeks April, just as I know you want to convey to Brooke, I want to convey to you: I don’t know when it’ll get better…only, that it will. I promise you, these moments, these painful days and weeks from hell and all of it, when we’re lost for answers, and feeling like a failure, these are the very moments that will in the long term, pay dividends. It’s not when things go smoothly—anyone can be at their best then—it’s when nothing is going right and maybe our kids think we have all the wrong answers, that our mettle is tested, and the simple act of being there…of them at least knowing we’re there even when—especially when—they may say they don’t want us there…THAT is where—in time—the strongest bonds are forged. Where the ones we love, like it or not, see that come hell or high water we will not stand down. That no matter how many times knocked down, we’ll get back up. Crawl back up, if need be. That’s our love for them. And they may not understand for many years, but one day they will. That life is not always kind, or fair. But you get back up. And you stay kind. You stick together, through thick and thin. It’s the simple act of hanging in there and doing your best, that one day they’ll look back upon and have learned the greatest lesson, and understand all the more how very much loved they are.
There’s a quiet heroism in everything you’re doing right now, April. I know it’s not ok now, but it will be. And it will be, because of you getting up every day and doing the best you can.
