Each Mary Esther Elementary staff member is assigned a duty each year, and in my personal opinion, car rider duty is the best… no questions asked.

Rain or shine, we started each student’s day with a “good morning,” “hello,” or a happy “whatever-day-it-happens-to-be!”

Some days we dressed professionally or wore our Thunderbird shirts and jeans, and other days… well, you just never knew what we might show up wearing (if you know, you know)!

Building relationships with students is always special, but getting to know the family members riding along each day made it even better.

Thank you to our car rider families for always being so kind, supportive, and appreciative of what we did each day to make sure your students felt loved the moment the car door opened in the morning and safe until we closed it again at the end of the day.

When it came time to choose a gift for each of you, the answer was easy… a car air freshener, of course! Now you can take a little piece of us along on your next journey.

Mary Esther Elementary may be closing its doors, but it will forever remain in our hearts. We hope that within these walls, over the last 61 years, we were able to make an impact on each of you, just as each of you has made an impact on all of us who were lucky enough to work in this wonderful building.

We are not saying goodbye. We are saying, “See you later.”

“See you later” in your new schools, where you will continue to shine bright and make your mark on the world.

“See you later” as you grow, learn, and move on to your next adventures. Adventures that we are so proud to witness, support, and celebrate alongside you.

“See you later,” and always remember how deeply you are loved. Thank you for allowing us to teach you, inspire you, support you, and grow with you. We are beyond thankful to have been a small part of your lives, even if only for a short time.

Spread those wings and fly, Thunderbirds. We love each and every one of you with every beat of our hearts.

Once a Thunderbird, always a Thunderbird.
