Student of the day: Luana 228USSP048JYF
Hello! I am Luana and come from a small town in Spain. I have a big family bu my family nucleus is rather small. My Dad is Spanish, Mum is Colombian and Grandma is French, so I would say that I am a mixture of cultrual diversity.
I consider myself cheerful, loving and a bit of a timid person. I have a good common sense and I know this experience will make me grow as a person.
Becoming an exchange student is a perfect personal challenge for me to prepare myself for an independent lifestyle. I feel it is a great opportunity to learn about people with different origins, life experiences, illusions and projects.
I dream about the world of cinema and fashion. I work on ideas for photos and ways I can experiment. I like dancing, roller-skating and painting as it is something that relaxes me.
I enjoy listening to music from all the genres but I am keen on soul, jazz and pop rock. My favorite films are comedies, adventures and animated.
Dear host family, my personal expectations are a mixture of illusions and emotions. I hope we will be together soon and share great moments and daily life.
Look forward to seeing you soon!

🇵🇱 Host Family,
My name is Agata and I am a 15 years old teenager from Poland. I live in the central part of Poland. In my town 120,000 people live. I have been living in my house since I was 5. Initially, with my parents and my sister, but she has been studying for 3 years in England and since then it is just me, my mom, and my dad. I also have a dog and he is part of our family.
Since September 2021 I have been going to high school, but first I had chosen a school and a class. In Poland we are supposed to choose a class (profile, specialization) before starting a high school which is directed at specific subjects that we are interested in. That means we have more hours of these subjects in our timetable.
I chose pre-IB to preparing to go to IB (International Baccalaureate) in 2 years. I want to pass IB diploma exams in the future.
I am a member of our student council. We organize events at school like Christmas, Saint Andrew’s Day, or music during long breaks. I take part in volunteering too because in my point of view helping is a major thing in our existence. It benefits in every possible way. Oxford Dabate Club, which I attend is an opportunity to improve my speaking, having sorted thoughts and being able to easily share them with other people.
My favourite sport activities are roller skating, ice skating and indoor rock climbing, but I am focused on science. I was at a science camp in July this year during my holidays, which was about human anatomy and physiology. I am interested in knowing how human works, so I want my future to be related to biology, chemistry, psychology.
I have made many friends lately and I spend time together with them very often. I am fond of a company of another person, but I need time alone to rest after the entire day or just a meeting, because I am an introvert and HSP (Highly Sensitive Person).
Travelling has been changed my way of thinking, attitude, and perception on many issues. Also, it has made me more persevering, but it is a hard and gradual process.
That is why I would like to experience the American life and culture. I want to develop like a person and go to something new.
I am looking forwad to meeting you! Thank you for choosing me as your exchange student.
Yours faithfully,
Placement request for 2022
Hello!
My name is Elsa. I’m from a suburb connected to the capital of Sweden. Im 17 but I will be 18 during my time in the US. During my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends. Even though I stay out late I take responsibility and never drink, do drugs nor do I smoke.
I love the ocean, my family owns a boat in the archipelago which we take on frekvent trips. I also love swimming and just being in the water. During my summer scout camps we will regularly try sailing boats which I love doing. I’ve been a scout since I was eight years old. Swedish scouting focuses on ”preparing scouts for life”. We learn to take responsible for ourselves and others.
Swedish scouts focus more on responsibility and thinking outside the box rather than learning how to survive in the woods. But I do have a lot of knowledge in that area. I can start a fire, use a knife as well as an axe and a saw and I know a lot of knots. I love being outdoors, in the summertimes I’m rarely inside and during my scout camps I’m outside weeks at a time.
During my free time I’m also painting and playing on the guitar as well as the Piano. I often sing along to my instrument. I listen to a lot of music. My favorite artists are Queen, Abba and the lesser known for Americans, Veronica Maggio and Hov1. My favorite music genres are pop rock, indie and Swedish rap.
I’m the kind of person who prefers to play sports over going to the gym. I used to play football or how you like to call it soccer. I played for three years but quit when my friends moved on to a better league (which I myself didn’t think I qualified for). I also used to ride horses from second to sixth grade but quit because I grew out of it. Though I miss it sometimes. I’ve also participated in handball, judo, basketball and swimming. I try to go skiing at least once a year. Sometimes with my family, but recently more with my friends. I love skiing in the piste as well as off piste.
My identifying traits are that I’m adventurous, energetic and optimistic. Here in the north, winter takes up most of the year and the summers tend to be the same temperature as southern USAs winters. I’d love to get a change in climate. But if you’re a family in Alaska that loves the ocean and the outdoors I’d still love to come live with you.
If you haven’t realized it yet my spot in the friend group is the clown. I have a philosophy that you need someone who keeps everyone at bay. I love arguing and debating. Me and my friends often discuss politics and philosophy. I do believe that wrong arguments are important to be heard. Just because someones argument is wrong dosen’t mean they aren’t allowed to be heard. But I want to stress that I can leave my opinions at home if we have different views.
I am also allergic to cats and sensitive to perfume, If you’ve had a cat recently I won’t be able to live in said house. When I’m exposed to a cat during a long time I get more sensitive to perfume and dust. I also have a weird fear of small dogs. I love big dogs but small dogs terrifies me. I love telling the story of how I got that irrational fear.
I am aware that I have written Marine Biology twice in my application. I wanted to study marine Biology here in Sweden but didn’t realize you could start in High school. Instead I choose to study our society. I really like that program to but I would like to try something else when I have the chance. When I grow up I want to work with the law and become a judge or a cop
