Congratulations, Mrs. Mappes!
The MSD of Martinsville is pleased to announce that Cheyenne Mappes was approved as the Interim Principal of Smith Fine Arts Academy for the 2026–2027 school year during the Board of Education meeting held on May 21, 2026.
Mappes brings 22 years of experience in education to the role and has been a dedicated advocate for staff and students throughout her career. She has served as a building Teacher Union Representative for 17 years and has remained actively involved in student clubs and athletic teams, building strong connections
with students and families alike.
In recognition of her commitment to education and student success, Mappes was previously honored as the District’s Teacher of the Year. In addition to her extensive classroom experience, she recently earned her Administrative License from Grand Canyon University, further preparing her for this new leadership opportunity.
“I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to serve the students, staff, and families of Smith Fine Arts Academy,” said Cheyenne Mappes. “I look forward to meeting the Smith families in August and working together to create a positive and successful school year for all students.”
Assistant Superintendent Suzie Lipps shared enthusiasm about the appointment and Mappes’ leadership potential.
“Cheyenne brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, dedication, and excitement to this role,” said Assistant Superintendent Lipps. “We are proud to support staff members who pursue continued education and professional growth, and Cheyenne is a great example of how investing in leadership development benefits our entire school community.”
