Around this time last week, the curtain was rising on the MCPS Performing Arts Academy production of Frozen Jr. ❄️🎭 What an incredible weekend it was!
We want to thank our amazing community for showing up and supporting our students. Seeing a full audience cheering them on builds confidence, celebrates their hard work, and creates memories our performers will carry with them for years to come.
A special thank you to our sponsors. Your mighty donations helped us purchase the materials and resources our students needed to bring this production to life, and they also contribute to our scholarship fund, helping support future opportunities for our performers.
I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to the incredible team who made this production possible: Erica Becker, Lateisha Fuller, Sharon Millner, Mandy Gordon , Jyshir Plunkett , and Devin Pendleton. My gratitude for each of you cannot truly be put into words. You were there every step of the way, giving your time, energy, and heart to our students. Since its inception with "The Wiz, Jr." in 2019, the academy has continually evolved, becoming an officially recognized Academy in 2022.
The Martinsville City Public Schools Performing Arts Academy has transformed from a humble high school drama club into a comprehensive program for students in grades 3 through 12. Beyond traditional boundaries, the curriculum now includes a wide range of subjects, and the program expanded to offer two productions annually by 2022-2023.
