🎉 Learning, Laughter & Family Fun at RAE!

Rich Acres Elementary recently hosted its annual Back to School Bash, bringing families together for an evening of learning and fun!

Families received helpful instructional information, including homework tips, attendance reminders, and other resources to help students have a successful school year. Then it was time for some fun with food, snow cones, bounce houses, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy time together! 🍧

A special thank you to Ridgeway District School Board member Mr. Champ Hardie for joining our RAE families and getting in on the fun!

Reminder: Tomorrow is Festival Latino of Southern Virginia!

Join the community at Patrick & Henry Community College for a day filled with food, music, fun, and celebration! The 7th Annual Festival Latino of Southern Virginia takes place Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is FREE!

Henry County Public Schools is excited to be part of this special community celebration, and we’ll have books to share with families! 📚 (While supplies last.) Be sure to stop by and see us while you’re there.

🦴 Learning from the inside out at Bassett High School!

Students are getting hands-on with the skeletal system by designing, cutting, and assembling their own skeletons while learning how our bones support, protect, and move our bodies.

Think you know your bones? 🧐
How many bones are in the adult human skeleton?
What type of bone is the femur?
And which system works with the skeletal system to help us move?

Along the way, students are also discovering how exercise and good nutrition help keep those bones strong and healthy.

These students really know how to put learning together! 🦴

🎶 National Arts in Education Week: Celebrating Band! 🎺🥁

It’s Day 4 of our National Arts in Education Week celebration, and today we’re turning up the volume for BAND!

Band gives students so much more than the opportunity to make music. It builds discipline, confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and creativity as students learn that every individual part contributes to something bigger.

We are proud of our talented HCPS musicians and the dedicated educators who help them discover their rhythm, develop their skills, and make beautiful music together! 🎵💙💚

Jordan consistently brings a positive attitude and a smile to every situation while providing exceptional service throughout our schools. 🍪🦖 Digging Into Learning at Stanleytown Elementary!

Who knew paleontology could be so delicious? Today, students at Stanleytown Elementary School became cookie paleontologists, carefully “excavating” chocolate chips from cookies just like paleontologists uncover fossils!

But those cookies packed plenty of learning! Students practiced science skills through observation and careful excavation, math skills by counting, comparing, and analyzing their findings, and problem-solving and fine motor skills as they worked to remove their “fossils” without damaging them.

Hands-on learning + a little imagination + cookies = one SWEET lesson! 🍪🔎🦴

🏃 Bengals on the Run!

Bassett High School Cross Country competed in one of the biggest meets of the season Saturday at Knights Crossing at Greenhill Park in Salem, bringing home 15 career- or season-best performances!

🌟 Thomas Fulcher broke his own Bassett 5K school record, finishing in an impressive 15:33.70 and shaving another 15 seconds off the previous record!

The Bengals also finished 27th out of 49 teams in the Varsity Red Division, the most competitive race of the day.

Congratulations to Thomas and the entire team on a great showing! 🐾
