Boots, buckles, bull rides, and a whole lot of FUN! 🤠❤️

It’s been one week since TCCA’s 2026 Sportsman Bonanza, and boy, was it one for the books! We’re still smiling about it! 🤠❤️

From cowboy boots and mechanical bull rides to delicious food, exciting drawings, wonderful prizes, and plenty of laughter, this community certainly knows how to make some memories!
And let's talk about that mechanical bull for a minute. 😂🐂 We have a feeling a few of you are still recovering from your eight seconds of fame!

But behind every great event is an even greater group of people, and we have SO many to thank.

❤️⚔️ A well-deserved spotlight for someone who does so much for our TCCA community!

We love seeing our very own Airaka recognized by the WV Eastern Region PTAs! 🎉

Airaka wears quite a few hats, and somehow, she makes it all look easy!

As President of our TCCA PTA, leader of our 4-H program, and co-owner of Huckleberry Farm, LLC, she brings an incredible amount of knowledge, experience, and dedication to our school community.

With an extensive professional background in the U.S. government, Airaka brings valuable leadership and organizational experience to everything she takes on.

From helping make projects like our greenhouse and playground possible to organizing family events and creating meaningful agricultural learning opportunities for our students, her impact can be seen throughout TCCA.

And let’s not forget her wonderful home-cooked meals! If you’ve ever wondered how she keeps our staff so happy, we’re pretty sure feeding them delicious food is part of her secret. 😉❤️

But perhaps what we appreciate most is her willingness to roll up her sleeves and make things happen.

Airaka, thank you for the countless hours, ideas, delicious meals, and heart you pour into our students, families, and school. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of our TCCA family!

Meet Our Eastern Region PTA Leaders!

Airaka has been involved with the PTA for a little over three years and loves being part of the effort to support the school community and create a better future for students. One of her favorite accomplishments is knowing the PTA played a vital role in the construction of TCCA’s greenhouse and playground. She especially enjoys hosting family events that bring students, parents, and the school community together.

📚 IS CLASSICAL EDUCATION JUST MEMORIZATION?

It’s one of the most common misconceptions about classical education.

And the short answer is no.

Memorization has an important place in classical education, but it is not the end goal.

Students commit worthy content to memory: things like poetry and Scripture, mathematical facts and principles, vocabulary, language forms, and important knowledge from the subjects they study.

Why?

Because knowledge gives students something to think with.

Research in cognitive science supports the importance of knowledge stored in long-term memory. What students already know affects how well they can understand new information, make connections, draw inferences, and comprehend increasingly complex material.

But here is an important distinction:

Classical education does not ask students to simply collect facts.

Even in the younger years, memorization exists alongside opportunities to apply what has been learned, recognize relationships, imitate excellent models, explain ideas, and begin reasoning about them.

As students mature, those abilities are developed more deeply through questioning, discussion, analysis, logic, writing, and persuasive expression.
In other words, the progression isn't:

Memorize → forget the facts → move on.

It is much closer to:

Know → understand → connect → reason → communicate.

And memory continues to matter throughout that process.

The Society for Classical Learning's accreditation standards reflect this directly: student learning at all grade levels should include the memorization of worthy content, the analysis and evaluation of ideas, and the eloquent and persuasive expression of one's own ideas.

So, is there memorization in classical education?
Absolutely. Intentionally so.

But is classical education just memorization?
Not even close.

The goal isn't a student who can simply recite information.

It is a student with a well-stocked mind who can understand, reason, communicate, and ultimately grow in wisdom.❤️⚔️

There is something remarkable about the people standing in our classrooms.

Collectively, our educators and educational leadership bring bachelor’s and master’s degrees, advanced leadership training from Harvard, and backgrounds spanning mathematics and statistics, psychology, special education, applied behavior analysis, early childhood and elementary education, biology, fine arts, music, agriculture, kinesiology, curriculum and instruction, biblical studies, and more.

Their experience reaches from preschool classrooms to university-level instruction, and includes special education, behavioral health, athletics, the arts, agriculture, and years of classroom teaching.

But credentials only tell part of their story.

Every day, our students are surrounded by accomplished educators who have spent years learning, teaching, leading, and mastering their disciplines, and who have chosen to bring that knowledge here.

They teach our students to read and reason, calculate and create, ask good questions, understand the world around them, pursue what is true, good, and beautiful, and grow in wisdom and faith.

That is an extraordinary gift to our students.

❤️⚔️ October is National Principals Month, which means we have an official excuse to brag on Ms. Rachel for a minute.

Leading the day-to-day life of a school is no small job. Leading one on a 100-acre working farm means wearing approximately 47 different hats before lunch. 😂

On any given day, Ms. Rachel might be getting cattle back where they belong, guiding a little one through some very big feelings, organizing a TCCA fundraiser, supporting a teacher… or walking a goat in full glam. 🐐💄 And somehow, we’re pretty sure all of that can happen before noon.

Behind those 47 hats is one seriously accomplished educator. With advanced degrees in school psychology and applied behavior analysis, a Certificate of Advanced Educational Leadership from Harvard, and service as a West Virginia delegate with the National Association of Agricultural Educators, she brings quite a résumé to the farm.

And just four years after TCCA opened its doors, Ms. Rachel helped lead our school to National Accreditation, an accomplishment even the Society for Classical Learning took notice of. ❤️

The credentials are impressive, but our students and families know the person behind them. The one who can move a school forward and, apparently, move cattle when necessary. 😂🐄

Ms. Rachel, thank you for the heart, leadership, and countless hats you bring to TCCA every single day. We’re pretty lucky to have you. ❤️⚔️

TCCA slams laptop shut until Monday. 💻✋😂

Because at this point… WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO SAY?!

600 tickets. EVERY. LAST. ONE. ✌️. 🔥

Tomorrow at 2 PM, the doors open for the 2026 TCCA Sportsman Bonanza, and we are officially HYPED.

Our staff, families, volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, and entire TCCA community have absolutely shown up for this event. From selling tickets and gathering donations to setting up, organizing, sponsoring, sharing, hauling, decorating, and handling approximately 847 last-minute details… 😂 you all made this happen.

The signs are up.
The tables are ready.
Every ticket is spoken for.

To everyone who has had a hand in bringing tomorrow together: THANK YOU. This community is pretty incredible. ❤️⚔️

SPORTSMAN BONANZA. TOMORROW. DOORS OPEN AT 2 PM.

Grab your ID. Pull on your boots. Leave your dignity at home if you’re getting on that bull. 😂🐂

Ms. Rachel took the bull for a test ride, and the Sportsman Bonanza is officially ready for SATURDAY!

📚 You might be surprised by what’s on this list.

The Lord of the Rings.
Les Misérables.
The Count of Monte Cristo.
War and Peace.

What do they have in common?

Memoria Press recently shared a fascinating look at 12 great novels with Christian truth woven throughout their stories — sometimes so naturally, readers don't even realize it.

And that is part of what makes great literature so powerful.

A good story can get us thinking about courage, sacrifice, temptation, forgiveness, suffering, good and evil — sometimes before we even realize we're wrestling with those questions.

This is one of the things we love about classical Christian education: we don't just teach students how to read a book. We teach them to think about what the book is saying about life.
