The TN Governor’s School for Agricultural Sciences is traveling across the state this week.

We were thrilled to host students from the Tennessee Governor's School for Agricultural Sciences at the University of Tennessee at Martin! Our director, Dr. Elaura Guttormson, welcomed the group with a tour of the Ellington Agricultural Center and the Tennessee Agricultural Museum, highlighting Tennessee's rich agricultural heritage and the important role agriculture continues to play across our state. Thank you for visiting—we enjoyed sharing this special place with the next generation of agricultural leaders!

Dean Winters spent a little time with a couple of our former Skyhawk Aggie students at the NACTA (North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) Conference in Mississippi. Elizabeth Sanders (R, B.S./M.S., Family & Consumer Sciences) is a Ph.D. Student at Virginia Tech, and Sarah Tyler (L, B.S., Agriculture) is a M.S. student at Tennessee State. Both are interested in Higher Education. Starting to Soar!

What are the Skyhawk Aggie students doing this summer? Victoria Hassell (Soil & Water Conservation) is a NextGEN intern working for UT AgResearch at the West TN AgResearch & Education Centers in Jackson (& Milan). She is working with Soybeans, Cotton, and Corn weeding, doing stand counts, measuring vegetative growth, and working with soil moisture sensors. Thank you WTREC for giving Victoria this high impact learning experience.

Part of Victoria’s living expenses were supported by a USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, NextGEN grant 2023-7044-40157 awarded to UT Martin through the Tennessee State University College of Agriculture.

What are the Skyhawk Aggie students duing this summer? Rebecca Bryant (L, Child & Family Studies) is a NextGEN intern with Parents as Teachers UT Martin , a new program in the Child & Family Grants program! Here she is with Ms.Jerrica Aguilar, a Parent Educator for P.A.T. at a Drug Preventional Council meeting in Obion County. She starts doing home visits around NWTN next week.
