Webster County MU Extension conducted a home poultry processing workshop this evening at Evans Farm. The birds were a 4-H project and the young lady did a great job raising them. Participants got a hands-on experience from start to finish. Everyone did a great job!

Tick bites can lead to more than just an itchy annoyance.

Alpha-gal syndrome is a growing concern in Missouri and across the Midwest. This tick bite–related condition can trigger a serious allergy to red meat and other mammal-derived products, with symptoms that may appear hours after eating.

A Golden opportunity has been presented to our hay producers here in early May we don't often get. I encourage all of our cool-season hay producers to take advantage.

Our fescue is in the perfect stage now for quality and quantity.

1. No rain forecast for 5-6 days
2. Highs in the upper 70's to 80's
= Quality hay weather that is rare.

The picture shows the winners of the 2025 Ozark Empire Fair hay contest. Every entry in yellow is early cut fescue with protein levels of~12-16% and RFV in upper 80's to 90's. This could be you this year.

The Yellow highlights are 2nd cuttings. The green Highlights are all of the early May fescue fields.

If you are interested in entering your hay in the contest this year, call our office: 417-256-2391 and we can get you sampled and entered.

White, ladino and sweet clover are valuable additions to Missouri forage systems, offering high-quality nutrition for livestock while improving soil health.
