The Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute (ARII) is launching our most important fundraising campaign yet. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, every gift made this month will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000. STARTING TODAY!

This June, the Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute (ARII) welcomed local high school students to our Coastal Academy Institute for an unforgettable week of hands-on learning and career exploration in the Blue Economy.

Students experienced firsthand the incredible opportunities available right here in our coastal communities through immersive visits and activities, including:
🌊 Exploring marine science and research at Woods Hole
🏗️ Learning about resilient infrastructure and construction with Skanska
🤖 Discovering cutting-edge research and robotics in New Bedford
⚓ Spending time on the water with the Harbormaster, gaining insight into maritime careers and stewardship

By connecting students with industry leaders and real-world experiences, we’re helping the next generation discover meaningful career pathways while building a stronger, more resilient workforce for our coastal communities.

At ARII, we’re proud to create opportunities that inspire young people to see the future of the Blue Economy—and their place in it.

Memorial Day weekend is coming, and it looks like we’re getting the kind of weather we all wait for here on the South Shore. ☀️

But here’s your reminder: the ocean has not caught up yet.

At ARII, we have a sensor right off Ocean Bluff and the current water temperature in Marshfield is 46 degrees. That is still dangerously cold water.

Even on a warm, sunny day, cold water can take your breath away, weaken your muscles quickly, and make it much harder to swim or stay calm.

So enjoy the beach, enjoy the weekend, and please be smart near the water:

* Know the water temperature before going in
* Keep a close eye on kids
* Use caution on paddleboards, kayaks, and boats
* Wear a life jacket when appropriate
* Don’t let warm air fool you into thinking the water is safe

A major highlight of ARII’s April Symposium on Coastal Resilience was being guided on a tour of the damaged dunes at Town Neck Beach — an experience the students talked about all week long. Seeing the impacts firsthand helped bring coastal resilience, erosion, and environmental stewardship to life in a way no classroom lesson could.

Learning about the history of the Canal and the important work of the Army Corps of Engineers truly impressed our students. We are grateful for the time, knowledge, and real-world perspective shared with them during this visit. 🌊
