Frankly Speaking I retired three years ago after an exciting, successful, 32-year career as an elementary educator.

I am now engaging, educating, and entertaining a different type of student - the residents of assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

If you live in the Middleboro area, here’s a great opportunity to have a delicious meal, meet great people, discover the history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and get a sneak peek at the floats and balloons making their debut in 2026. 🦃

I loved the positive energy and the interesting stories that were shared as I presented “From Sea To Shining Sea: American Landmarks” 🇺🇸 at Proprietors Green in Marshfield. These residents have seen and enjoyed our country and were eager to reminisce! I am looking forward to returning!

Friday, September 13th: I wrapped up National Assisted Living Week by taking the residents of Autumn Glen At Dartmouth on a trip to Ireland. The residents held their Irish flags as they sat back and enjoyed "Armchair Traveler: Dublin & Galway". When the presentation concluded, it was time for the raffle. There were cheers as mints, chocolate, and small containers of Lucky Charms cereal were given away.

Thursday, September 12th: A rainy afternoon was the perfect time to take the residents of Autumn Glen At Dartmouth to France! I passed around a tray of butter cookies before I began my "Armchair Traveler: Paris" presentation.
Activities Director, Thelma Melbourne, had decorated the dining room and hallways with French flags and colorful banners. There was a festive mood throughout the facility. My presentation was the "opening act" for an excellent French singer.

Thursday, September 11th: I began the day presenting "From Sea To Shining Sea: American Landmarks" at The Arbors Assisted Living At Taunton. It was great to be back in my hometown!
One resident shared a story about visiting many of the featured landmarks with her husband...on the back of a motorcycle. Another resident had traveled across the country on the back of a motorcycle. I loved hearing the residents spontaneously sing along to America The Beautiful.

Tuesday, September 10th: What a wonderful morning sharing "Armchair Traveler: Venice & Florence" to the residents at Autumn Glen At Dartmouth!

As I packed up at the conclusion of my presentation, a ninety-five year-old woman approached me and said, "Thank you for bringing back memories of visiting Venice with my husband."

I look forward to returning to Autumn Glen on Thursday and Friday.

Monday, September 9th: Today, I kicked off "Frankly Speaking", my new venture. I had a very rewarding afternoon at Keystone Place At Buzzards Bay presenting "From Sea To Shining Sea: United States Landmarks". The crowd loved learning new facts, sharing their own travel experiences, singing along to America The Beautiful and This Land Is Your Land, and winning raffle prizes.

After today's presentation, a resident who is a former 4th grade teacher approached me. When she told me that she had taught in Middleboro, I mentioned the name of the only Middleboro teacher I knew - a woman named Yvonne who had taken several graduate course that I taught twenty years ago. The resident brightened up and said that Yvonne had been one of her closest friends and that they had lost touch. We talked about Yvonne for a while and the resident said, "I don't even know if she knows that I came here and I have forgotten her phone number. I said, "Let's see if she is on Facebook. She wasn't so I tried Plan B - whitepages.com. Five minutes later I was calling Yvonne. The two friends quickly caught up and made plans to chat again later in the evening.

Tomorrow, I am off to Autumn Glen In Dartmouth to present, "Arm Chair Traveler: Venice & Florence". Because this is National Assisted Living Week, I have six engagements this week.

Feel free to pass along my brochure to assisted living communities on the South Shore or Cape Cod.
