Ambassadors of the Year: Great colleges don't do it alone. At this year's All Iowa Valley Day, we honored two community partners as our 2026 Ambassadors of the Year.

🤝 ECC AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR: Barlow Memorial Library
From Panther Pals to World Read Aloud Day to Ellsworth Without Borders, the Barlow Public Library has brought ECC students together with the Iowa Falls community through reading, service, and shared learning. Represented by Library Director Erin Finnegan-Andrews and Youth Services Librarian Rachel Fincham.

🤝 MCC AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR: Iowa Veterans Home
The Iowa Veterans Home gives MCC's Certified Nurse Aide students a place to complete clinical experience — and staff who teach, mentor, and test their skills along the way, helping prepare the healthcare workforce our communities need. Represented by Nursing Administrator Sarah Bruner, Nursing Services Director Kella Minteer, and Compliance Officer Tracy Pieters.

Four employees of the Iowa Valley Community College District were honored with 2026 Iowa Valley Impact Awards at this year's All Iowa Valley Day.

🏆 LIFELONG LEARNING — Mike Rottink (not pictured)
Professor Rottink brought theatre back to Hamilton Auditorium for the first time in more than a decade, rebuilding the drama department at Ellsworth Community College (ECC) and giving students a place to take creative risks and grow.

🏆 EMPOWERING STUDENT SUCCESS — Ashley Krimmer
Associate Professor Krimmer draws on her background in behavioral health to hold students accountable while supporting them with compassion — building the confidence they need to keep moving forward.

🏆 FUTURE-READY WORKFORCE — Jake Bennett
Associate Professor Bennett leads IVCCD's Construction Management program, pairing technical instruction with real industry relationships to prepare graduates for the field.

🏆 OUTSTANDING SERVICE — Demarion Harper
Assistant Football Coach and Assistant Director of Residence Life, Harper is the person ECC students and colleagues know they can count on — in the classroom, on the field, and everywhere in between.

Help launch a new workforce training program at Marshalltown Community College.

Iowa Valley Community College District is hiring a part-time CDL Instructor to provide classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel instruction for students preparing to enter the commercial transportation industry.

The instructor will help students build the skills needed to earn a commercial driver's license while maintaining Entry-Level Driver Training, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and Department of Transportation standards.

Position details:

• $30–$35 per hour
• Marshalltown, Iowa
• Flexible part-time schedule — we'll work with the right candidate to build hours around their availability
• Classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel training

Candidates should have three to five years of recent commercial driving experience, an acceptable driving record, manual transmission experience, and strong backing skills. A Class A CDL with endorsements is preferred.

Ellsworth Community College has been awarded a $1 million Career Academy Incentive Fund grant from the state of Iowa, funding one new career academy and expanding three existing academies:

• Construction (new)
• Agriculture
• Business Administration
• Welding

What is a Career Academy?
A career academy is a structured program that lets high school students take career and technical education (CTE) courses that count toward both their high school diploma and college credit at the same time, through concurrent enrollment.

The CAIF grant will renovate ECC's Trades and Industries building, add industry-standard equipment, and create dedicated space for construction coursework, giving high school students in Iowa Falls-Alden, South Hardin, AGWSR, and BCLUW a direct path to hands-on training, college credit, and industry credentials before they graduate.

RAGBRAI riders made it to Marshalltown Community College today — and what a way to close out this year's ride-along series.
