A farm run by adolescents? Absolutely! The Mountainside Farmers will be at the Warrenton Farmers Market (inside the building at 21 Main Street) on Saturday. Come buy some pork products to help our program continue! Everything purchased to run the farm comes from money earned through selling products made & raised by students.
We are so grateful for our community- our hogs are donated to the program by American Heritage Farm & processed by Ayrshire Farm.

Mountainside Montessori would like to thank Ms. Karen and Ms. Angela from the Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier County VA. along with Mr. Howard and his friends from the community for the unique and impactful learning opportunity that they have provided for our Adolescent students.
From Ms. Theo, Mountainside’s Adolescent Guide:
“The Adolescents spent Tuesday morning at Morgantown School outside Marshall. In partnership with the Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier County, Adolescents worked with former Morgantown School students to rescue yucca, daffodil and day lily plants before renovations on the school building. The Adolescents dug up plants and transported them to campus where they planted them for keeping until after renovations when they can be returned "home" to Morgantown School. It was a wonderful morning exploring the site, digging plants, and hearing stories of school days. We were able to find an old lamp fixture, bottles, and book pages from the school days. A huge thanks to Angela and Karen from AAHF and additional former students who joined us to share their memories and make history come alive for us. This will be an ongoing partnership as we take on other aspects of the Morgantown School project.”

What happens when the Adolescents hold their Community Breakfast? We see a lot of happy faces and feel so much gratitude knowing that their guests were nourished by the results of their labor!
Our school community appreciates the Adolescents for their hard work on the farm that made this breakfast extra special. The whole meal was delicious but the sausages and eggs from the Mountainside Farm were by far the stars! We are already looking forward to the next one 🥞🥚

The Adolescents have been caring for their animals and the land throughout the year and their hard work has produced results that they are proud of! Proceeds from the breakfast go to the Adolescents’ education and farm programming.

The Lower Elementary Class had a winter bake sale to raise money for a donation to the Marshall library as well as art supplies for their classroom 🙌🏾

New take on Duck Duck Goose on a hot day! “Drip, drip, drop…” 💦💦

UPDATE: The Foster’s Fundraiser has been extended & will begin at 11 a.m. & end at 9 p.m. on 4/3! Thank you, Fosters!
The buzz is that the Mountainside Drama production is going to be fabulous! You’ll get two chances to support these talented youth:
1. On Monday 4/3 from 5-9 p.m. dine at Foster’s in Marshall and a portion of the proceeds will go to supporting the program.
2. Come see the show!

The Adolescent Seedlings Dinner at Field & Main Restaurant, a much-anticipated highlight each year, was again a great success! The Adolescents prepared and served a three-course Vietnamese meal to 77 people with the caring and skilled guidance of the F&M team.

The Seedlings Dinner is a true farm-to-table experience for our students who raised a pig for the occasion. The Adolescents spent time working closely with the chefs, preparing the meal on Tuesday and Wednesday. The F&M service staff supported the Adolescents as they navigated waiting on tables and providing an enjoyable meal for customers. Many alumni returned to enjoy the evening. We are truly grateful for our partnership with Field & Main Restaurant and for our families and friends who so generously supported this memorable event!

The Adolescent class spent their Tuesday morning at Fauquier FISH in Warrenton. They unloaded a truck of food supplies, stocked shelves, and packed weekend food for the backpack program that provides 450 students with meals over the weekends and holidays. Fauquier Fish serves 5,000 people in Fauquier County which has a population of 70,000. Having recently moved to a new and larger location, Fauquier Fish is now able to handle increased storage for food as well as school supplies and household items.

The Adolescents enjoyed their morning and appreciated connecting with meaningful work that contributes to our community. They reflected on the privileges we have to make choices at the grocery store and to have consistent access to an abundance of food. Food is a basic human need and we often do not know who requires support. This volunteer experience was a reminder to be kind and generous as one may not know the hardships others are encountering.

It's always a joy to see our Primary and Elementary students sharing their environments and work with their parents on Parent-Child Night!

In the Montessori environment, preparation for the mechanics of writing starts long before the child picks up a pencil. Through work with the Practical Life, Sensorial, and art materials, the child develops his pincer grip, practices left-to-right movement, exercises lightness of touch, and develops flexibility in his wrist as well as control of his fingers.
