October is Head Start Awareness Month, a time to recognize what Head Start means right here in central Missouri.

At Missouri Valley Community Action Agency, we serve 391 children and families each year, helping children build a strong foundation for school and life while partnering with parents and caregivers every step of the way.

For 61 years, Head Start has been part of our community, and we’re proud to continue that legacy.

Celebrating Our Resource Navigators 🧭

Sometimes the hardest part of getting help is knowing where to start.

That's where our Resource Navigators come in.

They help individuals and families find their way through the maze of community resources and services—listening to what people need, helping identify options, making connections, and helping remove some of the barriers that can make accessing support feel overwhelming.

They're there for the questions.

“Who can help me?”
“Where do I go?”
“What do I need?”
“What do I do next?”

And sometimes, they're simply the person who helps someone realize they don't have to figure it all out alone.

Resource navigation is about more than having a list of resources. It's about understanding people, knowing the community, building connections, and helping individuals find the support that fits their unique situation.

This National Case Management Week, we're celebrating the people who help turn “I need help” into “Here's where we can start.”

Thank you to our Resource Navigators for being listeners, connectors, problem-solvers, and advocates for the people in our communities.

Celebrating Our Family Empowerment Coach 💙

Meet the person behind so many of our Family Empowerment and SkillUP success stories!

Real change doesn’t happen overnight. Sometimes it takes months—or even years—of setting goals, overcoming barriers, trying again, celebrating small victories, and having someone in your corner who refuses to give up on you.

That’s what our Family Empowerment Coaches do.

They do more than connect participants to resources. They build relationships, listen, encourage, problem-solve, and walk alongside families and SkillUP participants as they work toward goals that can change the course of their lives.

They've been there for the big moments—graduations, new jobs, completed training, financial milestones, and families reaching goals they once weren't sure were possible.

And they've been there for the moments in between, too.

The phone calls.
The hard days.
The setbacks.
The next steps.
The celebrations.

Because success isn't always one big moment. It's all the little steps that lead someone there.

Our coaches don't do the work for the people they serve. They help people identify where they want to go, navigate the barriers along the way, and recognize just how much they're capable of accomplishing.

Celebrating Our Family Advocates ❤️

Meet the people who are an imporant part of the village surrounding the children and families we serve.

Our Family Advocates do more than connect families with resources. They build relationships with parents, listen to what families need, help families identify their strengths and goals, and stand beside them as they work toward a stronger future.

But sometimes their biggest impact happens in the moments that don't make it into a report.

A conversation that gives a parent hope.
A resource that comes at just the right time.
A connection that opens a new door.
A reminder that someone believes in their family.

Today, we're celebrating the people behind that work.

🏠 WEATHERIZATION IS HAPPENING IN COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

Approximately 35,000 homes are weatherized each year using funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Behind that number are individual homes.

Individual families.

Individual communities.

And people working every day to make those homes more energy efficient.

Here in Missouri, we're proud to be part of that larger effort to help families improve their homes and make their energy dollars go further.

One home can make a difference. Thousands of homes can make a community-wide impact.
