Missouri Valley College Launches New Multimedia Journalism Concentration for Fall 2026
MARSHALL, Mo. — Missouri Valley College is expanding opportunities for students interested in media and communications with the launch of a new Multimedia Journalism Concentration, beginning in Fall 2026.
Designed to meet the demands of today's rapidly changing media landscape, the concentration combines traditional journalism principles with digital storytelling, video production, podcasting, photography, social media strategy, and multimedia content creation.
Students will graduate with both the ethical foundation and technical skills needed to succeed in a wide range of communications careers.
"The journalism profession has changed dramatically over the past decade," said Chris Post, the print media adviser for student publications at Missouri Valley College. "Today's employers aren't just looking for someone who can write a news story. They want professionals who can tell compelling stories through video, photography, audio, social media and digital platforms. This concentration will prepare our students to do exactly that."
The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning from the first semester. Students will gain practical experience through The Delta, Missouri Valley College's student newspaper, Voyage magazine, multimedia reporting projects, podcast production, photography, video journalism, and digital publishing.
The concentration also reflects the College's commitment to experiential learning by encouraging students to work with community organizations and local media while building professional portfolios before graduation.
"Our goal is to ensure every student graduates with more than a degree," Post said. "We want them to leave with a portfolio that demonstrates real-world experience and the confidence to step into today's competitive media environment."

The new concentration complements Missouri Valley College's tradition of preparing graduates for careers in communication while equipping them with the modern skills expected by employers across journalism, public relations, marketing, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and corporate communications.
Founded in 1889, Missouri Valley College continues to expand academic offerings that prepare students for meaningful careers through personalized instruction, hands-on learning, and close faculty mentorship.
The Multimedia Journalism Concentration will be available to students beginning with the Fall 2026 semester.
