What a treat. While on vacation in Ft. Walton Beach Fl. we ran into this beauty at Eglin AFB museum. This particular aircraft s/n 617959 had a 9' extension on the tail for equipment. It was a one off known as "Big Tail". It didn't decrease performance by much but it also didn't prove to be to be that great of an advantage so it was scrubbed. Also added an extra pic in, see if you can guess type.

Wow what a treat today at 4A5. Mike a retired Marine from Florida stopped by on his way to Bentonville in his beautiful GameBird GB1. This plane is designed and built right here in Arkansas, Thayden field in Bentonville. It's rated fully aerobatic, 10G's at 230 mph cruise. Mike was a true gentleman and gave me quite a show on takeoff. I'll tease you guys and post that video later.

The volunteers that are needed to pull off AirVenture every year is a huge part of the success and safety of EAA AirVenture. This is Orlo an Air Marshall in the Vintage aircraft area. He was a HUGE help to getting me out. When 1st started working on getting out I got the ATIS weather and airport info and it was runway 18L by the time I left I had been switched to 36 and then on to 27. Orlo here was the guy that helped me figure it all out and kept me calm and actually laughing through the most hectic take off of my life. Huge thank you to Orlo and all the EAA/FAA folks that made this week so amazing. I'll be looking him up again next year to get me a 2027 hug.
