My kid won’t walk, but he’s going to get where he needs to go with the right supports.

Other kids won’t talk, but they WILL communicate with the right device. AAC is ESSENTIAL.

If this is too long for you to watch, just know it’s not about turtles. It’s about small ways we can protect the most vulnerable.

I keep teaching him about invisible disabilities but he hasn’t QUITE gotten that concept yet. In due time, in due time.

Just making this video my heart rate is up AGAIN. Scroll the end to get a screenshot of some possibilities.

Other things I’ve thought a lot about: printing photo of client and family members for holiday visit practice, story telling, etc

Disability is not a hierarchy.

The minute we start deciding that one disabled person is “lucky” because they can speak, walk, work, live independently, or need less support, we’re also deciding that the person who can’t do those things is somehow less fortunate.

And that hurts all disabled people.

Because the same hierarchy that puts you above someone today can put you below someone else tomorrow.

Someone can speak and not walk. Walk and not speak. Need support with every part of daily life and still have a life full of joy, connection, preference, humor, and meaning.

None of these things tell us who has the better life.

Our abilities are not a ranking system for our humanity.

There are just many, many ways to be disabled. And I guess teaching that starts really early.
