Launch Your Future Today (LYFT) Career Pathways is a rural initiative to rebuild & strengthen CTE.

LYFT Career Pathways was excited to take part in the second Lead CTE Network, which kicked off October 5 in St. Cloud.

The two-day gathering brought CTE leaders from across Minnesota together to learn, share ideas, and explore topics including labor market trends, work-based learning, funding, licensure, and innovative CTE practices.

We were especially glad to see local school leaders from Adrian Middle/High School, Ellsworth Public Schools, Yellow Medicine East Schools, SWWC Service Cooperative ALCs, and BOLD Public Schools represented in the room.

When school leaders have opportunities to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and strengthen career-connected pathways, it helps create even more opportunities for students across Minnesota.

Not every energy career involves climbing a pole or installing equipment.

Electrical engineers help design systems. Project managers organize people and timelines. Safety coordinators help teams work safely, while environmental specialists consider how projects affect surrounding areas.

Part of LYFT’s work is helping students discover careers they might not know exist, then connect their interests and strengths to new possibilities.

A career interest can be the start of something bigger.

By talking with professionals, students can learn what people in the field studied, which skills matter most, and what experience helped them along the way. Career conversations, job shadows, and hands-on learning can help turn a general interest into a path students can actually explore.

During College Knowledge Month, it is a great time to connect those career interests with the education and training options that can help students get there.

Ready to explore what could come next after high school?

Minnesota West Community and Technical College, in partnership with the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council, is inviting students in grades 10–12 to their Explore Events throughout the region.

Students can visit a Minnesota West campus, learn more about college options, and get a closer look at pathways that may fit their goals and interests.

With multiple dates available, students can attend one or more events, and schools are encouraged to share the opportunity or bring a group.

This week’s LYFT Career Pathways Advisory Committee spotlight is Andrea Moore!

Andrea is the TigerPath Coordinator at Hutchinson Public Schools, representing McLeod County and the Hutchinson area. Through her work, she helps connect students with hands-on opportunities to explore careers, build skills, and discover what their futures could look like.

Andrea’s favorite part of LYFT is the collaboration and energy that bring people together and lead to amazing opportunities for students.

Last week was all about connection, ideas, and regional momentum at Rally Your Region.

Across multiple days and locations, educators, employers, economic developers, community leaders, and students came together for fresh ideas, great conversations, and new connections focused on strengthening Southwest Minnesota.

We are proud to have partnered with Southwest Initiative Foundation and SWWC Service Cooperative to help bring these opportunities together across the region.

Along the way, we were glad to connect with Adrian Middle/High School, Lyon and Murray County CEO, and SWWC in Marshall at Southwest Minnesota State University, along with Wabasso Public School, Redwood Area Schools, and the 59 Corridor CEO program.

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared ideas, and brought great energy to Rally Your Region!

Wind turbine technicians inspect and repair turbines. Solar installers set up systems that turn sunlight into electricity. Lineworkers and electricians work with the equipment and systems people rely on every day.

October is College Knowledge Month, a chance to help students take a closer look at their options after high school.

That might mean a certificate, an apprenticeship, a technical program, a two-year degree or a four-year degree. The useful starting point is learning what each path involves and where it could lead.

James is the President of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. Through his leadership, he brings a strong business and community perspective to the Advisory Committee and helps support connections between education, employers, and workforce needs across the region.
