In partnership with the Ramsey Center and Appalachian Barn alliance, a new exhibit has been installed in the campus MHU Museum, Exploring the Past and Imagining the Future: A community Works Together to Preserve and Protect the Smith Farm and Bailey Mountain. It will be open tonight during First Friday 5-8pm.

Last chance to see River Cane Renaissance at the MHU Museum!

This First Friday from 5-8 p.m., the MHU Museum will be open with the Mountain Heritage Center’s exhibit, River Cane Renaissance, hot cocoa, and crafts for children.

River Cane Renaissance highlights the river cane plant and the historic uses of river cane by residents of the southern Appalachians. Several river cane artifacts and reproductions are featured, ranging from woven baskets and mats to tools, weapons, and musical instruments. The exhibit also explores the biology behind the river cane plant, which is native to and grows throughout the Southeastern U.S. Finally, the exhibit showcases efforts that are being made to improve river cane habitat and bring back this native species.

NEW HOURS! Thanks to our amazing students. The MHU museum will be opening weekly starting Tuesday, November 7 at 3 PM after that the weekly hours will be:
Mondays, 3-5; Tuesdays 3-4; Wednesdays, 2-5. Don’t forget to come see this awesome Rivercane exhibit tonight during First Fridays opening at 5:00!! 🎋
