New Student orientation is wrapping up and your future Wildcat won't want to miss out.
Summer orientation is a great opportunity for new students to stay in the dorms, meet other new Wildcats, meet with professors, tour academic areas, register for classes, sign up for clubs and organizations and connect with resources to ease their transition into college.
It's peace of mind for everyone.
If your student is planning to attend NMU in the fall and hasn't registered for orientation yet, there are still two sessions left, June 29- July 1 and July 8- July 10. We can't wait to meet you!

🩰✨ Something spectacular is coming to the Marquette stage...
There is a distinct magic that happens when world-class artistry meets our local community talent, and you can experience it firsthand later this month.
The annual North Coast Dance Festival is officially returning to Northern Michigan University on June 25-26, bringing unforgettable performances to the Forest Roberts Theatre. Whether you are a lifelong patron of the arts or simply looking for a vibrant summer night out, this year’s festival promises to captivate.
For the first time in the festival's history, the entire NMU CO/LAB Dance Company is reuniting outside of the regular academic season. They will be performing a gorgeous new classical ballet titled Symphonia, a high-energy piece set to New Order’s iconic track, "Blue Monday."
Sharing the spotlight are some incredible national names. Giordano Dance Chicago will take the stage with two stunning concert jazz works: the theatrical Dumb Luck! and the sultry, Latin-flavored Sabroso. Audiences will also witness the world premiere of a brand-new classical ballet, debuted by Sacramento Ballet dancer Julia Feldman and freelance artist Mate Szentes.
The festival is more than just a weekend of shows; it is a full community celebration of movement. The excitement kicks off early on Wednesday, June 24, with a free Jazz Master Class led by Nan Giordano (just be sure to pre-register by June 22 if you want to dance!). Then, following the main centerpiece performances on Thursday and Friday nights, the weekend concludes on Saturday, June 27, with a free youth showcase highlighting the incredible talents of the Wildcat Performing Arts Academy.
This is an incredible opportunity to support our local student artists as they share the stage with national pros. Tickets for the main Thursday and Friday performances are $25 for the general public, $22 for seniors, military members, and NMU employees, $15 for youth, and completely free for NMU students thanks to the Siril Endowment for the Arts.
Spaces are limited for these unforgettable summer evenings. Visit NMU Ticketing online or in person to reserve your ticket: nmu.edu/tickets

New student-led sustainability and environmental projects are coming to NMU!
NMU's Green Fund will support nearly $73,000 in sustainability and environmental relations projects around campus. The Green Fund is a student-paid fee that supports ideas submitted by students across campus.
“I am so proud of the projects that the students and selection committee moved forward this year,” said Jes Thompson, assistant vice president for Sustainability and director of SHINE, or the Sustainability Hub for Innovation and the Environment. “They provide numerous benefits to all of our human and non-human stakeholders and embody the importance of fostering a healthy ecosystem for all.”
Projects include:
🌿 Increasing accessibility to the local bus service, MarqTran, by renovating an older, formerly retired bus shelter with solar panels to provide electricity, along MarqTran's regular route. The bus will run through campus every 25 minutes, stopping at Tracy Avenue.
🌿 Adding signs around campus identifying plants using their Anishinaabe name and Braille, feather-friendly dots to windows to reduce bird collisions, and an outdoor air quality monitor sensor to encourage research and education opportunities for students in various areas of campus.
🌿 Repairing the bike repair station at the Wildcat Trailhead to include a public work-grade stand, including new tools, a working bike pump, and a wheel chock.
🌿 A non-traditional lawn test plot installation by the Hoop Houses close to the Woodland Park apartments to demonstrate the biodiverse and pollinator-friendly lawn options available. This area will also be used as a research and community learning opportunity.
