The forecast does not look favorable for eclipse viewing tomorrow but we will remain hopeful!

The Shiras Planetarium is open today(Tuesday-8/11) from 11am-1pm and handing out free solar eclipse glasses. Stop by and pick up a pair! We also have a sale on all our shirts-$10 each!

Need eclipse glasses for Wednesday (8/12)? ☀️🌙

Shiras Planetarium will be giving away FREE solar eclipse glasses Tuesday, August 11 from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., while supplies last!

Limit: 2 pairs per person. Please only take glasses if you plan to use them. If we run out, we’ll close the doors early.

📍 Where to find us:
Enter Marquette Senior High School through Door #11 on the southeast corner of the building, under the small canopy just left of the Shiras Planetarium sign. The planetarium is just inside!

What will we see?
Marquette will experience a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12.

12:42 p.m. — Eclipse begins
1:22 p.m. — Maximum eclipse
2:01 p.m. — Eclipse ends

The Moon will cover only a small portion of the Sun, creating the appearance of a small curved “bite.”

⚠️ Solar eclipse glasses are required every time you look directly at the Sun. Regular sunglasses are NOT safe.

The photos were taken by our Planetarium Director during the previous solar eclipse in Sandusky, Ohio. They show safe direct viewing with solar eye protection and indirect viewing using a 3D-printed solar projector. Even a kitchen colander can work as a simple eclipse projector!

Shiras Planetarium T-shirts will also be on sale for $10. Shirt purchases are cashless and will be made by phone using a QR code onsite.

Grab your glasses Tuesday, then get outside Wednesday and watch the Moon take a little bite out of the Sun!
