On Friday the campers enjoyed a chill morning at the NMU Hoop House. Current NMU Hoop House Student Organization co-leader Mary and recent alumna Tricia facilitated the tour and activities, which included aerating compost bins; replanting two garden beds; harvesting "purple sun" potatoes, lavender, and garlic; tending the herb spiral; and painting several signs, herb markers, and stumps for sitting on. Many hands made light work! The Hoop House says thanks for helping grow local food for the community.

Preparing to canoe the AuTrain River involved learning about stream channels and reading the topographic map of the area. The campers calculated that they would paddle more than 6 kilometers to travel the 1 km as the bald eagle flies. Talk about a meandering stream! The mix of rain, clouds, and sunshine kept things interesting. The intrepid adventurers encountered some wildlife along the way and now have a deeper understanding of being "in the same boat" as someone they met just days ago.
