Northern Michigan University’s Baccalaureate Social Work (BSW) program was one of the first programs in Michigan to be accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in 1974. NMU’s program has played an integral role in helping the university achieve its mission by giving students the knowledge and experiences to “become productive citizens in the regional and global community.”

Interested in the relationship between trauma and individual well-being? Check out our Intro to Crisis and Trauma class this fall! This course is available for both our BSW students (SW 407) and our MSW students (SW 530). It is offered in hybrid form for our on-campus students and is also available for our global campus students. Instructed by Rachel Holman, classes are on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm-8:30 pm. See the description below;
SW 407 (SW 530 for MSW Students) - Intro to Crisis and Intervention. Credits: 4 (3 for MSW Students). Lecture/Discussion/Lab:4(3)-0-0
Prerequisites: SW 100 or junior standing or instructor’s permission.
This course explores the impact of crisis and trauma on individuals, families, and communities, along with resilience factors and intervention methods. Students will learn trauma-informed practices, crisis management strategies, and su***de prevention techniques. The course addresses cultural, legal, and ethical considerations, as well as issues like secondary traumatic stress and burnout in human service professionals. Theory and best practices will guide discussions on effective crisis response and trauma intervention.

A new job opportunity;

Child and Family Services of the UP is hiring two new foster care specialists. This job primarily involves managing and overseeing foster care cases by identifying strengths and needs of parents and children and connecting the family with services to meet their needs. Qualifications for this position include a bachelor's degree in a human services degree. Preference will be given to individuals with 1-3 years of previous foster care experience. Work is full time at $21.22 an hour with benefits.

Clarity Behavioral Health and Assessment Center is a growing private practice in Marquette, Michigan. We offer a warm, community-oriented environment with a focus on high-quality, client-centered care. We're currently expanding our team to welcome a therapist who can support clients with a range of concerns in a collaborative, supportive setting.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a licensed mental health therapist to join our team as a 1099 contractor. This is a flexible position ideal for clinicians looking to build or maintain a private caseload without the overhead of running their own practice. You’ll have access to a private, fully furnished office and administrative support, while benefiting from an established referral stream and professional visibility.

Qualifications:
Active Michigan license as LLMSW, LPC, LMFT, or LLP
Minimum 1-year post-grad clinical experience preferred
Malpractice liability insurance (required for 1099)
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative culture
Interest in trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, or relationship work preferred
