👇 Why dance parties matter in our house:

Save this as a good reminder!

With two girls and one boy, we’ve made it a regular routine to crank up the music and just let loose at least 3-4 times a week. It’s become our way of not only getting goofy, play, and having fun - but also to shake off the long day when we need to.

Whether the day has been rough or smooth, we always find a way to dance through it together as a family.

There’s something magical about it. The kids light up, their worries disappear, and before long, we’re all laughing, kids are having fun, parents are letting loose, and our worries seem to just fade away. To me, it’s a reminder of what’s really important - our connection as family, our love for one another, and the bond that we are creating over time - #teamwoodrum 💪❤️

It’s the closest thing to pure joy that I can think of. As adults it’s a chance to put our ego aside, and let out our playfulness. Something our kids will take inspiration from. Though honestly I feel like they are teaching me how to play too.

Years back these would have been the moments that I had prayed for.

So my invitation for you - If you’re not already doing it, or maybe it’s been awhile since you did it last - prioritize more regular dance parties as family.

A great way to do this is to set a specific time. For example, say 4pm on weekdays.

Kids have come home from school, they decompress for a bit, chores get taken care of, and then when 4 o’clock hits - It’s dance time! Or if you’ve got time you can do it in the mornings, especially on weekends. It will shift the tone for the entire day. Even if it’s just for one or two songs, it will make a big difference.

So I’m curious - to all the fellow parents, what are your thoughts on dance parties with the kids?

Do you do them? Would you recommend them?

Are you inspired to start doing them more?

Let’s talk about it!

Are smartphones taking over your home? Do you need tips to figure out management with your child? The Facebook Group: Parenting in a Tech World (https://www.facebook.com/groups/parentinggeeks/)
has amazing contributions and questions from parents just like you who are trying to manage this crazy new world our kids get introduced to far too soon.

Inappropriate smartphone use causes anxiety, sleeplessness, negative social interactions, etc. All these things together can create learning issues at school and behavior issues at home.

Our educator cups are full seeing all of our students back in our hallways! Each month we will send out ways to help take care of yourself, especially if you need a break or are feeling low. Here is the first Self Care September, a few days late.

Encourage your child to reach out to any adult here at Bothwell if they need any kind of support. We are here for them.

Wait Until 8th 06/04/2024

Almost all teens report using the internet daily; nearly half of them are online “almost constantly.” It is clear that social media is here to stay, and it is important for parents and caregivers to understand how they can support teens’ mental health when it comes to social media use. The Social Media and Teen Mental Health guide from the Family and Youth Services Bureau can help.

This guide demonstrates how parents and other caregivers can help teens build healthy social media habits, manage screen time, share safely, recognize the signs of excessive or problematic social media use, and understand the benefits of social media, all while protecting their physical safety and mental health. Check out the guide here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ibJdALFCA4eYCHCS09PzoO-tecM3o-CH/view?usp=sharing - and consider opting in to the "Wait Until 8th" Pledge (https://www.waituntil8th.org/).

Wait Until 8th The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least 8th grade.

Your voice is a powerful instrument to help your body metabolize your painful emotions and release the survival energy that feels like anxiety.

These five sounds, rooted in ancient Chinese medicine, are a simple way to draw your nervous system out of a survival state into felt safety, a state of rest-and-digest.

As you experiment with any of these sounds, you might notice signs of your nervous system shifting toward safety (also called rest-and-digest):

Spontaneous sighs, yawning, waves of warmth, crying, a settling in your core, facial flushing, more saliva — to name just a handful of them.

Our 8th Graders visited NMU today to see what college academics and life might look like in their future. Students saw living spaces, classrooms to do team building, the dining hall at lunch, and the renovated Jacobetti Center where students can learn skills in mechanical and electrical engineering, automotive repair, construction management, building technology, electronics, industrial technology and skilled trades such as HVAC, welding, industrial maintenance and computer numerical control. It was a fast-paced day of learning!

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers, NMU, and our staff at BMS and MAPS!!
