Our 2nd hybrid 10a Group Class was today, combining Detroit Youth Volume & Marquette Youth Volume on Zoom together! We had ages 6-15, from Pre-Twinkle through Book 4. We played classical songs and practiced jazz improv with this 10-person class, as did the 11a Group Class of 7 beginners this morning.

Playing through all the Twinkles with all possible harmony parts and youngest people on open strings is always great!

We watched a clip from Juneteenth 2017 of our "Jazz Violin The Detroit Way" show at N'Namdi Center For Contemporary Art to see Sebastian and DYV doing Conduction, and Lillian as a 6-yr-old! Then we tried out a bit of Conduction.

Lillian performed her solo from last year, a Seitz concerto, which is the first one in "Book 4" of the classical Suzuki rep. Everyone followed along in the book and got to count how many notes she was using in one bow stroke (6!)

After Suzuki pre-Twinkle warm ups, the Beginners read a book called "City Rhythms" by Ann Grifalconi and took turns making "loud" "soft" "sharp" "dull" sounds, or notes that could sound like the pigeons taking off from the rooftop. https://vimeo.com/106676542

Great morning! So grateful!
