NMU's Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Institute is pleased to partner with the Michigan Healthcare Cybersecurity Council (MiHCC), the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA), and CyberForceQ to offer a free, in-person UP Fall Healthcare Cybersecurity Summit from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, Oct. 27, 2026. The event will be held at the Northern Center at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. This summit is designed specifically for rural hospital executive leaders and their teams and will provide a day of learning, collaboration, and exploration of real-world solutions to strengthen cybersecurity across Michigan.

The summit will include:

Healthcare cybersecurity threat briefing: Current threats, trends, and what’s next for Michigan.

Incident tabletop exercise: Practice. Discuss. Strengthen preparedness.

Panel discussion: Challenges and successes in healthcare cybersecurity.

Practical solutions: Insights from industry leaders and healthcare peers.

Networking and partnership: Build connections to strengthen Michigan’s healthcare community.

In addition to representation from our partners at CyberForce|Q, presenters will include Andy Brush from the University of Michigan-Michigan Medicine and Tarek Sasy from the Michigan State Police Cyber Command Center (MC3), along with leading cybersecurity experts.

The summit will feature a tabletop exercise where participants will:

Explore how rural hospital leadership teams make decisions during a realistic cybersecurity incident—focusing not on IT details, but on hospital operations, patient care, and organizational stability.

Walk through real-world challenges related to operational continuity, risk management, and internal and external communication.

Gain insight into how leadership actions shape outcomes during stressful situations.

Members and guests are encouraged to register as soon as possible, as seating is limited for this in-person event. Registrations will be accepted up to one week before the event date if space is available. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, with a reception available after the event.

The UPCI is hiring camp counselors for a one week residential summer camp focused on cybersecurity for high school students. It is a great opportunity and counselors do not need to have a cyber background. We are looking for fun energetic individuals to ensure a safe, fun, and positive experience on NMU’s campus. The camp is from July 12th through the 18th.
The pay range is $16-18/hour and includes room, board, and meals. Please DM if you know someone that might be interested!

The Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Institute and Northern Michigan University are proud to host the 3rd Annual Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Symposium! As northern Michigan's premiere cybersecurity conference, the symposium attracts over 150 information security professionals together for three days of cybersecurity content. We have assembled a great lineup of industry experts, leaders, and practitioners. Our partners in federal and state cybersecurity agencies will provide the latest updates and threat briefings affecting the nation, state, and industry. Whether you're a cyber veteran, or just starting your career, you'll learn about the latest threats, emerging trends, and the best ways to keep your organization secure. The main topics this year are:
