Layered surfaces and lighting can really make a display stand out. We designed and built this donor feature in the new Kentwood Community Center for the City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department. This donor feature was built to last from layers of laser-cut aluminum and clear acrylic. Paint and LED lighting help bring it to life. It features space for 58 donor names to thank all the donors for this new building project, both now and into the future. We have fabricated and installed a variety of interactive video exhibits. Sometimes the housing is built into an exhibit and triggered with a motion sensor, other times there is a start button and a more traditional screen housing. The videos themselves may be of actors portraying a character, a professionally produced video clip of an event or location, or they could be slide shows of photographs or artifacts. Small updates can make a big impact! The "before" is on the left, and "after" is on the right! This display is at the Cascade Historical Society, in Cascade Michigan. It features a cross-cut of a 200-year old black walnut tree, and provides a brief glimpse into several historical events that happened during its lifetime. By enlarging the text panel and adding a background photo and spotlights, we were able to make this a more engaging exhibit. We also updated the stand that holds the cross-cut, reducing the space it takes up and making it more secure. Interactive exhibits can be a great draw for visitors. Here is one we installed a few years ago at the Pump House Museum for the Historic Ottawa Beach Society. Starting a modern car is pretty easy--it only involves a key or a push button. Early cars were much different, with a much more complicated process to get the engine going. This interactive explains the process, and also offers visitors the experience of trying to start an engine in a manner that is safe to do indoors without harming valuable museum artifacts. This exhibit is no longer on display, but here it offers a glimpse of the type of innovative work we provide for our clients. The Ada History Center - Ada Historical Society participated in the America 250 celebrations this year with their temporary exhibit, Yankee Doodle Joy: Expressions of Patriotism. We have had the pleasure of working with them on their last few annual temporary exhibits. This one was just as fun as the first! Over the years they have invested in a few re-usable pieces of exhibit hardware that we can use to install future exhibits too. It's a great value for small museums to have these types of pieces in their exhibit collection, and we worked to tailor those pieces to the needs of this museum and the space they have available for changing exhibits.

Here's a project from the end of 2024 that we didn't manage to post. Design was done by Project Arts & Ideas, we fabricated an installed it at the Boyne Heritage Center. The exhibit is focused around the history of fire fighting in Boyne City, and features an entry that has burned panels and moving theater lights to give the effect of fire. A short video showing fabrication progress of a replica marsh for the Eddy Discovery Center at the Waterloo Recreation Area in Chelsea, Michigan. This piece was built entirely in our shop and delivered to the client as a single unit and put in place in their main exhibit area.
