You don’t need a background in speech therapy to build your child’s language. You just need to take to them more and a little differently.

Narrate as often as you can. It will build vocabulary and comprehension long before your child says a word back.

It’s not about “extra” work. It’s about turning what you are already doing into language building moments.

As an SLP, this is one of the simplest things you can do at home: a word of the day + a question of the day. Today’s word is ‘overwhelmed.’ Today’s question is what are 3 tools that help when you’re upset? Kids with more feeling words act out less… they don’t need to, because they can just tell you. Try it this week with these words!

Exposure is everything and it doesn’t mean your child has to eat, love, or even finish the food. Every bite offered, touched, or tasted (even the ones that land on the tray instead of the mouth) is a rep toward tolerance. Keep offering the variety. The eating will catch up. 💛

A day in the life of an MJ SLP! If you work in a pediatric therapy clinic you truly have to know it all. We address concerns across early language, vocabulary, articulation, AAC, cognition, feeding, fluency.. you name it… and we love it!!

Articulation therapy: doing it right vs. doing it stressful 😅

Here are some more tips!

✅ DO practice in short, silly bursts: 5 minutes of giggles beats 30 minutes of drilling
✅ DO let them hear the sound modeled before asking them to fix it
🚫 DON’T correct every single sound, every single time: that’s how kids start avoiding talking altogether
🚫 DON’T expect it to click overnight: new sounds need reps, not lectures
