This month’s challenge was “The Beatles”. My youngest is a Beatles super fan at 12! I have always loved the song “Blackbird” and I love what Paul McCartney has shared about the meaning behind the song. It was a fun piece and I stretched my own wings a little more on faces. More work to do, but I was happy with where this one ended.
Watercolor, done with Beam Paints.

I just finished this piece. The challenge was “The west” and there’s so many things I love about the west it was really hard to pick. I remembered all the things I grew up loving and being fascinated by as a child. The sights and smells, the wildlife, the soul of the west. I fast forwarded to the things I love as an adult. The things I wanted to teach my kids about so that they would have the love and respect for the land and customs and beginnings that shaped the west. This one is called “Grandmother Spider spins the west”. To be clear, these are not my traditions and this piece is not for sale. It’s strictly to honor the love I have for not only the west, but for the cultures that shaped it.
This piece was done in watercolor with natural pigment paint made by Beam Paints, a First Nations owned business that makes the most amazing colors I’ve had the pleasure to work with.

Sometimes there are days that just stop time. Everything is measured before and after that moment. And then, as it does, time marches on. But it feels like maybe it moves differently. Each left to navigate something unfamiliar. Milestones shift. This one didn’t turn out exactly how I anticipated, but sometimes art reflects life that way. And really, it’s about the journey and learning how to walk it the best way we can.
This one is simply titled “Skylar”

Today I’m posting a newly finished commission piece I did for a dear couple. The theme given was “the life cycle of the monarch butterfly” and this one I’m so proud of. It’s done in watercolor on 22x30 inch strathmore cold press paper and framed in a custom metal frame heat treated for color. This piece really holds a special place in my heart and I loved every bit of its making. I feel like I grew in my craft creating this piece. I have always wanted to use watercolor and never been brave enough to try. I am now looking forward to more! Thanks for looking! Feel free to like and share if you’re so inclined and stay tuned for more to come!
