Directions

Assabet Valley Collaborative Satellite Programs Assabet Valley Collaborative Students in our REACH programs benefit from embedded speech/language services, physical, occupational, vision, and music therapies.

The Assabet Valley Collaborative REACH program provides a multi-disciplinary approach to meet the varied and complex academic, therapeutic, and healthcare needs of students with multiple disabilities between ages 4 and 18. REACH infuses social communication throughout programming with a particular emphasis on assistive technology and augmentative communication. We provide comprehensive nursing support, and inclusion opportunities with typical peers. The Assabet Valley Collaborative Evolution program is available in our Shrewsbury and Marlborough locations. This transition program is designed for students aged 18-22 who continue to be eligible for educational services as they transition to adulthood. Evolution blends educational opportunities within real-world settings in the community. Students in this program are given transition assessment, job development, and job coaching. Our students benefit from community-based instruction with topics including travel training, fitness, college, shopping, and recreation. They also receive school-based instruction where learning is centered around healthy relationships, cooking, finance, laundry, and hygiene.

AVC Evolution Illustrative Arts Elective!

This week, our Evolution students explored Alignment as part of our Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity! (C.R.A.P.) graphic design unit!

Using a fictional Campus Creative Night event as inspiration, students were challenged to organize the same information into their own unique flyer designs while exploring alignment and visual communication.

With just paper, glue, rulers, markers, and creativity, they're learning that graphic design isn't just about making things look good, it's about communicating effectively, while using C.R.A.P.

πŸŽƒ Reach 3’s Week of Pumpkin Fun! πŸŽƒ

We had such a fun and busy week filled with pumpkins, creativity, science, writing, music, and lots of hands-on learning!

🎨 Arts & Crafts

Our classroom was full of pumpkin-themed creativity this week! We made pumpkins out of buttons and even went on a special β€œWhere Is It Wednesday?” walk to collect sticks for the pumpkin stems and leaves to use for decorating.

We also had fun making silly faces on pumpkins, letting everyone use their creativity to make their pumpkins unique.

Another favorite activity was making pumpkin cloud dough! All of the students had a chance to help with the ingredients and participate in making the dough. Thais was a wonderful helper when it came time to whisking the dough! Everyone got to take some cloud dough home to continue the fun.

We also made adorable pumpkin handprints with the sweet saying:

β€œIsn’t this the cutest pumpkin that you have ever seen?” πŸŽƒβ€οΈ

πŸŒ‹ Science

Science was especially exciting this week! We made a pumpkin volcano πŸŒ‹. The students voted on what color they wanted their volcano to be, and the winning choice was RED! They had an absolute blast watching their pumpkin volcano erupt!

✏️ Writing

For writing, we dissected pumpkins and explored them using our five senses. The students worked on a writing prompt about what they could see, smell, feel, hear, and even taste while investigating the pumpkins.

🎢 Music

We had a blast at music class with Miss Bri! The students enjoyed singing, moving, and participating in fun musical activities together.

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Movement Breaks & Community Connections

During one of our walks for a movement break, some high school students came over to say hello to our friend Brogan! It was such a sweet moment and a wonderful reminder of the connections our students make within our school community. ❀️

The students also got to say hello to other high school students in the cafeteria, creating more opportunities to connect with peers throughout the school.

It was a fantastic week of learning through play, exploration, creativity, music, and hands-on experiences. We can’t wait to see what next week brings! πŸ‚πŸŽƒ

🍎 Reach 3’s Apple Learning Adventure! 🍏

This Week in Our Classroom

This week, we had lots of fun learning all about apples! Students explored apples through science experiments, hands-on activities, a classroom vote, and fun games.

πŸ”¬ Science: Apples in Action!

We started an apple seed germination experiment. Students learned that seeds can grow into new plants and had the opportunity to observe and learn about the different stages of growth.

We also explored density with a β€œSink or Float” activity! Students made a hypothesis about whether different parts of an apple would sink or float. Then, each student got to test an apple part and see what happened. We practiced making predictions, testing our ideas, and observing the results.

πŸ—³οΈ Our Apple Color Vote!

We also had some fun making a classroom choice! Students voted for their favorite apple color:

πŸ”΄ Red
🟒 Green
🟑 Yellow

It was a great opportunity to practice voting, making choices, and sharing our preferences with our classmates.

πŸŽ‰ Fun and Games!

We got to enjoy a fun game of limbo and tried eating donuts on a string! Everyone had a great time laughing, cheering, and participating. Even the teachers got to try! How fun!

🌟 What a Great Week!

What a fun week! We had a wonderful time exploring, predicting, experimenting, making choices, playing games, and learning together. Our apple activities gave everyone a chance to participate and learn in a hands-on way.

Great job, everyone! 🍎🌱
