Looking for a fun camp for your preschooler this summer?

Wild Hearts summer camps are filling up fast, but there are a few spots left! This year we have half day camps for younger outdoor enthusiasts. The themes for these camps are Fairies in the Forest and All About Fire.

This week was packed with fun! We explored the stream, clambered on rocks, and got the last drips of sap before removing the spiles. We did a lot of work to the dam we’d begun the fall, using teamwork and communication to collect sticks and place them where they should go. We also used our imaginations to pretend we had a cafe inside a hollow hemlock and that we were on a fishing boat. We are loving the milder weather the spring is bringing and are excited to share our experiences with you! Check out the programs available at Wild-hearts.org.

It was a fun week of exploring caves among mossy boulders, marveling at the icy wonders of the creek (and doing plenty of icy sliding!), oh and we threw in some measuring, too. Turns out the trail blazes aren’t all the same height! Come explore with us!! Wild-hearts.org

It was a week of discovery at Wild Hearts this week. As the temperatures warmed and the snow slowly melted, we discovered squishy mud to squash in, soft sand to draw in, and a plethora of colorful items that had been hidden all winter! We also worked on skills such as balancing, climbing, and how to use a saw to cut safely. Check out our programs at Wild-hearts.org

Spring is coming! We noticed it all this week at Wild Hearts. We noticed it by tasting sweet sap dripping from our spiles, hearing the water rushing in the creek, and feeling and seeing all the living things now uncovered from snow. Oh, and we also tried our hands at fire starting! With the warmer weather coming, it’s time to start thinking about summer camp. No matter the weather we continue to climb, explore, observe, and build here at Wild Hearts. This week led to hiking, climbing and sliding on rocks, exploring refrozen ice, and building with freshly fallen snow. There’s always something new to do in the woods! One of the best things about the forest is that it has a built in playground with opportunities to explore, climb, and test our boundaries. This week we had so much fun climbing a fallen oak tree. The kids were very good about assessing risk and moving along the tree only as far as they felt comfortable (which was different for each person). Allowing children to experience things we may think are risky allows them to better understand what their own bodies are capable of. Want to come explore with us? We've been up to so much this February Vacation Camp week. There was a taste of spring with warmer weather, a day of rain, sugaring all week, eating pancakes, climbing trees, sliding on ice, and enjoying snow at home!! How lucky we are to have experienced the wonders of the natural world together.

We loved the freeze/thaw temperatures this week at Wild Hearts. It made everything slippery which led to sliding on icy puddles, making “ice angels,” and climbing small slopes and racing down! We also did a challenge to build our fire high enough to burn a piece of twine suspended over it. It took a lot of teamwork, but we did it! Wondering what’s cooking?? Today at Wild Hearts we made fire starters with the Seedling group. We melted wax and poured it over lint and wood chips in an egg carton. The kids got to bring the fire starters home for their families to use! Also pictured is what we’ve been up to the past two weeks: building with snow (a tunnel, cave, and “sno-fa”), hiking, and shoveling roads on the frozen lake.
