As COVID-19 cases surged in late 2020, Karla Alvarez left New York City for Marlboro, Vermont. She didn’t know much about what life would look like outside of the city, but Degrees of Freedom’s mission to provide affordable, flexible higher education programs was close to her heart. Her goal is for no other students to have to ask if they can afford to build a sustainable, fulfilling life for themselves.

As a Freedom Builders Fellow, she has dedicated her time to creating higher education programs that will give students the opportunity to invest in their education without making financial sacrifices. Check out her story on Medium!
